Pink eglu in the Daily Mail (join "the urban smug set&q

It was saccharine but I have to wonder how many of these new eglu owners don't know chickens moult and won't lay any eggs for three months of the year!!!! Factor that into your budget!

That's not entirely true - most of my hybrids have never moulted and the ones who did only went off lay for a few weeks. The black rock in particular has never moulted, and still lays 3 or 4 eggs a week in her third season now.

I quite liked the article even if it was a bit chick-lit-esque.

I know I am going to be shot down in flames but you lot take the biscuit

"white trousers"

"high heels"

"cleavage"

Etc etc....

Who honestly cares if it was a sickly article, it was primarily factually correct, as opposed to some of the comments in response on here, and showed keeping chickens in a very positive light.

I drop into this forum on an ad hoc basis, and reading this makes some of us appear to appear simply elitist (sp)...

.. I knew nothing about keeping chickens when we got ours...

they get pellets... time to free range, are kept on bark in the open air and very little else beyond two very proud and caring owners... if we could do it in our small back garden anyone can. Any article which moves anyone in that direction should be applauded not criticised.

@Matthew- yeeeeeeers but you see we ALL have a right to an opinion. I make no apologies for the way that article made me want to retch, I dont have to like the journalism the content or the vile paper that printed it just because it is about Eglus and chickens.

Yeah, she was far too slim, well dressed and pretty for my liking (not to mention the cleavage!):lol: . We had to take her down a peg or too :lol: .

.

Actually I read that article and saw the picture and I thought - WOW that could be me (I'm NOT kidding - for the first time in my life). I really would love to be in an article like that looking fabulous like she did. I did still think it was well written, informative but syrupy.

Come on Pengy would you really go and cuddle your chickens (stepping though poo on the way) in your best work gear? And high heels  )

That is not elitist - that is just practical.

My point was (owning up to the high heels comment) that the photos paint a bit of a rosy view of chicken keeping.

The article itself was fine.

And in other contexts the photos would be fine.

BTW when will we see more photos of the (latest) new you Pengy? Another real success story.

well I do go down in my work gear - if Mum isn't here, as they don't come out on those days so I go down to say good morning. But it is usually my crocs not my heels.

I am going to get a piccy of me feeding them in one of my evening gowns soon though.....They asked in the newsletter so they are going to get!
