abwsco
Wasn't really sure where to post this but I wondered if anyone would be willing to post some pics of their gardens to give me some inspiration. Our garden isn't big and we're not really gardeners. We had a heavily shrubbed area which we never pruned hard enough (as we thought they'd die) so it ended up looking like this: We pruned them back earlier this year to this - kill or cure -lol We then realised how much grass we'd lost and of course now the chickens are free ranging the soil and bark is getting kicked out all over the grass. The shrubs are growing back though! I was just thinking of railway sleepers on the soil not too far from the shrubs put would really welcome all suggestions. If it would help I could possibly take an up to date pic. Thanks

chelsea
here's mine. We went for a jungle look - dead easy to look after - just bung in a load of evergreen plants and hey presto! ( we did have bare patch of lawn to begin with )
redhotchick
Hi, haven't worked out how to post photos but if you go to the gallery and search for redhotchick there is a picture of my garden there. (not inspirational though!) Can I suggest that you completely dig out the old hedge and plant something of your own choosing. Or some small fruit trees maybe? I spent the time digging out about 40ft of fast growing very un-manageable shrubs and I've planted various decorative or scented shrubs in their place. The pictures don't show this. bellekatz
Yep - it is an acer - its been there about 10 years now and loks fab> I have anther acer on the left in a huge tub which I love as well. The one I have is low growing but is quite wide, doesn't need much trimming ( the dog has been doing that for me recently as he like the twigs as well - but has stopped now the leaves are on ) Its this type Acer Palmatum Dissectum Atropurpureum (Garnet) HTH Jayne

Ooh, I am I would love one of those, mine has the ordinary leaves. bellekatz
My other two have "ordinary" leaves but I love the colour on this and it is even more spectacular come autumn! I do like acers generally though and would love another of these in the front!

chickencam
This is mine from the bedroom window there is a greenhouse hiding behind the tree too and a summerhouse out of picture to the right hand side near the house. We are lucky that our garden is shaped like a quarter of a circle which made it interesting to start with. When we moved in the people who had it before us had a lawn with some honeysuckles on the fence that was it. They didn't use the garden despite having 3 children because they didn't like the road that runs past it. We like it because we can be quite noisy and get away with it
chelsea
wow, I love the Eglu area Liz, very pretty and established.
chickencam
Ta muchly The area was there and we just made the run area along side it, I have pots and troughs down the side of the run at the moment with flowers in. The girls seem to leave things in pots largely alone so we have lots of pots this year with flowers and courgettes in We used to have loads of perenial geraniums around the garden but the chickens have eaten most of them, but we probably had too many anyway
