4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Almost six weeks since my 3 chooks arrived and although two of them started to crouch 3 or 4 days ago, I am still eagerly awaiting my first egg!

 

I know it could arrive any time soon - but I was wondering what time do chooks 'usually' lay? I appreciate that they won't lay at exactly the same every day - but was wondering if there was a preference for early/mid/late morning or afternoon/evening (or is it all of the above!!!)

 

I sometimes let them out for an hour or so in the garden before I go to work, so I was wondering if they laid one whilst I they out very early in the morning, I probably wouldn't know about it! Perhaps I will stumble across a supply of them one day when I get under the hedges to check!

 

I guess I am just so eager to find my first egg - I just want to find out what (if any?) is my best time to keep an eye out???

Mine started laying a couple of weeks ago and they seem to be laying in the morning, first thing now. However one of them started off later in the day and seems to be getting gradually earlier

I think it's pot luck . One of mine is laying just before I going to work (at the moment), the other two could be laying any time but the eggs are there when I come home from work at 4pm.

Both of mine lay fairly early in the morning and have done since they started laying about 6 weeks ago.

Mine lay any time between 7:00am and about 10:30am

 

I can usually hear them when they are about to lay too, so I know when to expect an egg if i go out

Today 5 laid before 9am and the sixth didn't lay until late morning.

 

However, last week 3 laid in the morning and the other 3 laid in the afternoon.

 

The week before that it was different again, one of them didn't lay until 4pm.

same here, we had one laid at 9pm one evening and one laid at 6am another day... with my 6 girls..they please themselves although mainly it is mornig lunch time...

Mine are similar, usually mid morning to lunchtime but occasionally there is one before 7 am or in the afternoon. Never had one as late as 9pm though, about 5-ish I think was the latest.

Mine lay at anytime of day.

 

They tend to lay about an hour later than they laid the day before. At the moment Bertha is laying at around 6pm and Dippy at about 6am and the other 2 anytime between

Cos i work full time-i cannot be certain with the exact time so i retrieve eggs later when i get home,but on weekends-it tends to be between 8-10am.

 

Today i was out all morning and there was only one egg waiting which isnt unusual cause they do need a break every now and then.Oddly though,when i decided to clean the Eglu at 3.45pm-Onion was inside there squeezing one off!

If they lay at 9am ish on Monday, it does tend to be 10am on Tuesday etc etc.

Ours have all usually laid by noon. Occasionally Agnes will lay in the afternoon but not very often.

This is interesting! Mine tend to lay in the morning but not always, sometimes by early afternoon and occasionally one will lay quite late! Opal laid about 4pm yesterday. They obviously just want to do their own thing

Cocoa does this Christian, Sugar is pretty stable and in the mornings, however Cocoa will get so late in the day she leaves it until the morning and starts all over again..

 

Which happened yesterday so son eagerly went out to look for eggs this morning, came back with two.. and dropped Cocoas as he was opening the back door, because a daft spaniel, who's name I wont mention becuase she's in his bad books rushed past him at that very moment.

mine most often seem to lay at around 12-2 lunch time. but we've got a poorly one in the eglu at the moment so they seem to be a bit later on. it was about 3pm yesterday
