Hi, I was just wondering what time of year you all bought your chickens. What I have been researching says either spring or autumn is a good time, as in spring you can get used to them and protect them before winter sets in or autumn, when you can buy chickens born earlier in the year that are at their point of lay.

I guess it doesn't really matter but I'm curious all the same!

got ours in october last year. Don't think I'd want to introduce or get any new ones in the depths of winter, I'd say any of the other 3 seasons would be fine though.

I got mine in the middle of Feb. I voted Spring.

Is spring February? I wanted to be able to get used to the girls through the warmer (!) and longer days. The first week I had them the temperature plummeted to minus 8! The Eglu is tested to minus 10.

I was a bit worried, but they seemed to be warm and snug.

Well, I can't choose a single option! I got the original two, (Muddles and Henrietta) in August, Starlet in October and Molly and Spice in September.

Breeders tend to have a larger range for sale during the autumn as these were the ones that had been hatched out during the summer-and are thus larger! Seeing that most people buy in the summer then they usually then have a lot of stock to sell.

Thank you for your replies! :D

It was just while the schools are on summer holiday which was today, and I'm under 16 I was just thinking about getting my chickens now, although I didn't know if now was the best time and whether to wait until next spring! But I don't think there will be any problem now!

Thank you all loads! :D:mrgreen:
