Jillus
How much water do your chickens drink? I was looking at buying a new drinker for my hens and I read that 3 hens would get through a litre a day. Mine seem to drink virtually nothing at all and now I am beginning to worry. I have always put apple cider vinegar in the water and wonder if they perhaps dont like it. They are laying well enough and are alert wide awake. I have just got two new Lavender Auracanas last week and they also don't seem to drink much water. Stevie
Mine too dont appear to drink much when confined to run,but when freeranging-they're forever helping themselves to my dogs bucket (he wont use a bowl-odd dog!).I do see them also drinking rainwater droplets on wire run though after rain. At the end of the day,if they're healthy, happy and laying-i wouldnt worry too much!
stoice
Mine love it when i hose the lawn as it pools on top before sinking in. They get excited now every time they see me with the hose. They love cool fresh water. Maybe you have put a little too much ACV in the water and it's putting them off. Try reducing it a little. I have quite a large drinker (Not a glug) and change every few days, any longer and the drinker gets a bit manky, (especially if anything has been flung into it when dustbathing) so I don't know EXACTLY how much they go through
Mutrix Farmers
I don't think mine drink a litre per day between them. But they do help themselves to the birdbath (which is ground level), water in plantpot saucers, dirty puddles and rainwater on the wire. They also have a bowl of pellet porridge each day which has x-amount of water in it, as well as grapes and greens (also have some water content) If they seem healthy and the poos are moist, I wouldn't worry
redhotchick
Mine seem to be drinking more since I started the ACV. I use about a teaspoon (or 2?) just a drizzle really in 2 litres. 2 of them do seem to drink about a litre a day, just from a normal glug
Egluntyne
Mine drink massive amounts......mind you there are 14 if them. I have to fill up 2 x 5 litre drinkers ( glugs aren't big enough) every day pretty much. I put ACV in one and Battles Poultry Drink in the other. If they can find a muddy puddle, they prefer that though.
Gallina
I find that four hens nearly finish an old-style Glug-ful of water a day. But it depends on the hens: skinny little hybrids won't drink as much as my fatties. (I tried to look at the old-style Glug in the Omlet shop to see how much it held, but it is no longer available. So I have three collectors' items! The only problem is that I like them so much I don't want to sell them.) I think the old Glug holds two litres, so that means each of my hens drinks nearly a half-litre a day.
FruitandNutCake
My 3 litre drinker was lasting about 3 days, but the rabbits were also drinking from it. So that's about 1 litre between 5 - about 200ml each. I have about 10ml AVC per litre and they seem to drink it without a problem.
