keyhole kate
Sorry Everyone have to have a rant otherwise I will burst into tears I have been applying for jobs for ages and with help of a Trust through the pathways to work had secured an Interview at an all day recruitment day for a post I was realy interested in! In the meantime a post came up as a Employment advisor with the Trust helping me find work I spoke to some one from HR who told me there only interview slot clashed with the recruitment day I went with my Gut feeling and agreed to attend the Emplyment Advisor interview today at 10.30 today HR said she would send all the details time place etc I have heard nothing despite emailing her twice!! So I got up at 7.30 am got everything ready and prepared waited to 9am rang the Head office asked for the office address and tel I was to be interviewed explained the situation eventually someone returned my call to tell me there was no Interview there today they took place last Thursday!!! I am so upset, I have now missed out on two oppertunities! Even worse if there organisation cant sort out there own recruitment what chance have they got in helping me find work in the open market. I just dont know where to go from here I am so upset I cant think straight kitty Edited September 19, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
Bad luck. Did they appoint anyone last Thursday? If not, under the circs they should offer you an interview.
keyhole kate
I honestly dont know I was so lost for words (not like me) the guy who rang me said he he didnt know what had gone wrong but that he would get the HR girl who had spoken to me to ring me. I had to stop myself from saying dont bother what's the point I'm not sure that I could or want to speak to her right now in any case. I am trying not to keep thinking about it otherwise I start crying and get a runny nose( not very attractive) Kitty
lizinsa
What time did the interview day start? Is there anyway you can go to it today, perhaps you could give them a ring. If not, whoever is your contact in the Trust needs to be made aware of the situation asap and explain your disappointment both in not getting the opportunity to go for either job but also in their organisation. Hopefully this will show them how serious you are about finding a job and spur them on to help you more as it was their fault. GOOD LUCK, I do think that these things happen for a reason, and you never know what may come up as a result!
chocchick
I hope they do phone and sort it all out as it is their mess. There probably is separation between HR and them finding you a job, I'm sure they can still help you. Hope you feel a bit better soon. keyhole kate
The other Interview today was an all day recruitment event with lunch security screening and hopefully offer and end of it It started at 8.30 am this morning and to get there I would have had to have left home by 7.30 am. So no go sadly to turn up late would be pointless If you cant turn up for interview on time etc.......
Guest
Actually I went for one interview earlier this year where a candidate turned up 20 mins late and at the end of the day it was her who got the job. Mind you the other candidate sat there CHEWING GUM!!!! Yes teachers chew gum sometimes but usually not around the kids as we spend half of our lives trying to stop them chewing gum (and then sticking it under the desks!!!) clootie
I'm a little confused (it's an age thing) ........... you say you were promised details of time, location etc for the Advisor's position. How long before the supposed interview did you find out about it i.e. how much time did the HR people have to send out the details to you? keyhole kate
I was called on my Mob by HR last Tuesday 22nd inviting me to attend the interview which she told me was tuesday 29th 10.30am and in which Town. I did say that it clashed with another recruitment day with possible interview I had to choose which to attend neither could be changed to different days or times. I had a quick think returned her call and agreed to attend today at 10.30 am it was arranged that she would email me through the details ie Address and contact name for the Interview today. All I actually received on 22nd from her was an online skills test which I completed, when I had not received any thing by friday 25th I emailed HR to ask if she had sent me the details but got no reply. I emailed again yesterday again no reply. Given as I had been told the interview was today and still had no inf I through there head office tracked down the local office I was applying to & rang them to be eventually told the interviews were held Thursday 24th not today 29th at all so I could have gone to the other post's recruitment day after all as there was no clash. Needless to say to date I have received no telephone call/email or apology from anyone let alone HR : Hope this clarifies Kitty
clootie
I understood the clashing bit okay - I was just confused as to how long it was from initial discussion to interview day which answers my question regarding how long they had to get the information to you. As it was such short notice - would it not have been a better idea to ring them rather than email them and wait for a reply? Your emails could have been missed but if you had called them at least you would have been speaking to someone. At the very least they need to be offering you a late interview - the lack of contact from the girl who gave you the wrong info in the first place speaks volumes. I would be ringing them tomorrow if you haven't heard from them before then. Be calm when you do eventually speak to them and make sure you are treated fairly or take it further (keep a note of the names of everyone you have dealt with and when). It won't help your situation if you get angry (but understandable in your position). Good luck and keep us posted.
Cate in NZ
Oh, what a rotten experience for you. I do hope that you can speak to someone, explain the misunderstanding and salvage something from the mess . I have to admit that I personally always push to have things in writing, letter, email or even text, largely because I'm a panicker and I tend to do the "what did they say" thing, so having it writing gives me evidence of what exactly was said, for if either i forget, or they get it wrong. So just getting a call on the mobile with the details feels a bit slap dash to me . But I am old fashioned . But it's evening over there now, so hopefully you're feeling a little better, so relax, have a great evening, try to feel positive, and then try to work out what went wrong and what can be put right in the morning. Chin up and wishing you heaps of good luck with the job hunting....it can be a total nightmare I know. I'll toast you and your future job interview successes with my coffee and Weetbix
keyhole kate
Some of you may remember a previous post and my huge dissapointment when I missed out on an prospective Job Interview when the HR dept forgot to send me the details of where and when an Interview was to be held and I missed out I have received a letter from the same Employer. A charity helping Disabled and people who have been out of work longterm to get back into work and also supports them in employment inviting me to attend an interview on the 10th October 08 for an Employment Advisor Role I am one of there clients so I know only too well from experience and can totally empathise just what disabled and those out of work longterm face in trying to get back into work and how it affects you not only financially but more importantly emotionally. I dont want to get my hopes up too much as I have to convince I am able to adapt to change of career having always previously worked in front of house Customer Service but I just cant help being excited. My Employment Advisor Louise and others I have met have been brilliant very positive and supportive and probably had a hand in this. After being out of work for two years whatever happens I am just gratefull for the oppertunity It does become very hard not to write yourself off.
