Angels4
I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this, but I remember there was some talk about the oder of "traditional" flitraps recently. During the first few days of getting the girls I noticed an increase in the fly population around the run and Eglu. On another chicken site someone mentioned using an empty plastic milk carton, leaving the lid on and drilling some holes along the outside of the carton, then filling it with vinager and sugar mixed with a bit of water. I just wanted to share with all of you that I have tried this and it works a treat. The fly population has decreased (loads of flys in the bottle) and the honey bees are not affected because of the vinager. Not to mention the oder isn't as horrific as the traditional type of flitraps. Edited August 9, 2008 by Guest
chickenlass
Thanks for this...I will give this a try as the smell off the proper Flitraps I bought is quiet terrible some times.
Egluntyne
Thanks! Will try this next week. Will have to "rescue" a plastic milk carton from work first as we use Milkman's milk at home.
AJuff
Oh I'll have to try this too. I tried a hen poo soup attractant but it hasn't worked.
purple hen
We have had great success with an adapted lemonade bottle with my sons home made ginger beer in it ("Ooops, word censored!"ody would drink the ginger beer). It has been much more popular with the flies and pleasanter to be near than the bought flitrap. The only problem was when he decided to empty and refill it and he tipped it right outside the front door, we had scenes reminicent of a fly version of Hitchcocks Birds for days, i think every fly and wasp for miles around came to the party.
