lisa33
I stupidly fell over last night on the way home. I landed on my face and now look like I've been in the ring with Mike Tyson. Below my eye is really swollen and growing all the time. It is turning blacker every time I look in the mirror and my cheek is covered with scratches. It really hurts and I feel (and look) like a right plonker. Andyman was really worried as he thought I had broken my cheek. Has anyone any hints to reduce the swelling please? Stupid, Stupid me. Angels4
Sorry you took a tumble. A package of frozen peas, corn, vegetables wrapped in a towel and placed against your cheek should do the trick. theherd123
EEK!!! Lots & lots of ice wrapped in a tea-towel so it doesnt burn your face. Make sure you have cleaned out all the scratches as you dont want them getting infected on top of everything else. Can i ask how you managed to fall over and did it involve alcohol? clootie
You poor thing - what an awful thing to have happened. Bet you don't even have a good excuse for that eh? Anyway, witch hazel is the best thing since sliced doodah. Lovely and cool. Pop it on cotton wool and hold against the bruising and I guarantee the bruising will disappear but you must keep applying it or it won't work. Even in bed before you go to sleep. Lie with some cotton wool on your face soaked in witch hazel. I hope you feel better soon. Hope Andyman's making you lots of tea!
Egluntyne
If it gets any worse and the pain intensifies....a trip to A&E might be a good idea.....Andyman could be right. I hope you feel better tomorrow. Those 5" heels are a pain aren't they?
lisa33
Can i ask how you managed to fall over and did it involve alcohol? I'm not saying anything that could incriminate me. Thanks for all the advice. Like I said it was my own fault and Strongbow may well have played a part in it.
lisa33
Those 5" heels are a pain aren't they? 5" heels and me certainly don't mix. I would have probably had to spend the night in A&E if I been wearing them. Certainly wouldn't have needed strongbow to help me fall over!! gracefruit
Arnica cream can help with bruising, but I don't think you should use it on broken skin. Ice, too -- lots of ice. I hope you're feeling better soonest.
Ain't Nobody Here
I can so sympathise with you . I fell last year and landed on my cheek. It swelled up so much I couldn't see. Went to A&E and had an x-ray - face was fine but I'd broken 2 bones in my hand . I only used frozen peas but should probably have used something else as the bruising was spectacular and continued spreading downwards for a few weeks . The swelling went down after a few days. Be prepared for some strange looks when you go out and about, especially if Andyman's with you . I was out running when I fell .

Clash City Rocker
"It wasn't the Strongbow, Honest" Hope you'll be fit for next weekends "Gig" !!!!
Lapinou
Arnica cream on the bits of unbroken skin, and arnica pillules (boots sell them) regularly. They work so well. When my daughters bang themselves and I know about it, I always give them arnica and they rarely bruise, but they seem to end up with bruises from bumps I wasn't aware of so they didn't get any arnica for them. lisa33
"It wasn't the Strongbow, Honest" Hope you'll be fit for next weekends "Gig" !!!! You'll be able to laugh at me in person next week. Going to the filming of Transmission (the T-Mobile music programme) on Thursday. I think they'll make sure Andyman and I are as far away as possible from the cameras. Snowy
Oooh, poor you (more water with it next time!) Definitely ice; arnica cream on the bruised not broken areas; and try some ibuprofen tablets for the pain and inflammation (providing you are not asthmatic) Maybe a large pair of dark glasses in the meantime
lisa33
Thanks for all the tips everyone. I've been slapping the Arnica cream on the black bits and tea tree cream on the cut bits. I'm going to see how it is in the morning before I make a decision about A&E. Touch wood it will look a bit better than it does now. Don't think I'll go to work tomorrow and I have Tuesday off for delivery of my cube. Hopefully it will have gone down by Wednesday when I go back to work. Sent a picture of the hideousness to my work mate who was quite horrified We had to go the Thornes to get some chickeny bits this afternoon so I suddenly developed a Phil Oakey fringe. The Dogmother
Ouch, you poor thing. I hope that you feel better soon. I swear by Arnica pillules - Rosie bruises easily and they are brilliant. I used it before and after my recent op and the docs couldn't believe how well I healed.

lisa33
I'm having today off. Am going to pop over to the chemists as I have run out of Ibuprfen (sp?). I will ask if they think I should go to A&E. I hope not. I hate Lister Hospital!!! The swelling does not seem to have gone down and the bruising while not quite as black seems to have spread almost all round my eye. Superjules, you are more than welcome to pop over as long as you don't laugh too much. Andyman did quite well with the sympathy untill abut 8 o'clock last night when he asked if he can start taking the p yet!!
superjules
Superjules, you are more than welcome to pop over as long as you don't laugh too much. Well, if you prefer I can just pop it through the letterbox - I've got the mini-supers with me and I don't want them traumatised!! Andyman did quite well with the sympathy untill abut 8 o'clock last night when he asked if he can start taking the p yet!! I'm surprised it took him so long! Hope you don't have to go to hospital. Let me know if there's anything I can do. Can you see ok to drive or would you like a chauffeur?
