I am getting a Columbine hen and they say that there is an 80% chance of a hen which lays a blue egg otherwise they will be tinted. What do they mean by tinted ? What colour eggs do your columbines lay ?

I have 2 Columbines and they both lay green eggs. I scrutinised their earlobes when I bought mine!

I have three columbines, two lay blue so I voted blue but the other lays green. They are the most unfriendly hens out of my chooks!

My columbine lays blue, but I have another type of blue egg hybrid who lays pink eggs. They are very pretty

I was looking for a blue/ green tint to the earlobes. Apparently you're more likely to get a blue/green layer if that pigment is present in their earlobes.

One of my marans has greeny earlobes? I thought they were to lay dark brown eggs? Definately greeny earlobes though! ???

I suppose the coloured earlobes only indicate the colour of egg in those particular breeds which lay blue/green eggs . Don't know what the point of them is for other breeds - purely decorative, presumably .

My 2 new girls,Dandelion & little weed, are too smallto lay yet,but neither have green ears

I do hope this too comes with age - I will be everso unlucky to have 2 Columbines who don't lay a green or blue egg!

My columbine (which I got in September) came into lay on 13th December and has been laying beautiful green eggs since then. Her third egg was an ENORMOUS double yolker and weighed about 3 1/2 ounces. I am delighted with her.
