alexgirl73 Posted August 29, 2008 Share Posted August 29, 2008 My hubby had them 2 years ago, finally diagnosed after suffering pain for quite a while. He had keyhole surgery to remove them, in hospital out 2 days later with only 4 tiny little holes in his stomach, which have now disappeared And quite recovered within 2 weeks. She had stomach pains for ages then had a scan and they saw the stones. She had 4 little holes as it was done through keyhole too but is now pain free and back at work! Olly Posted August 29, 2008 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Can't speak personally, but a friend had hers done last year and she said it was (much to her surprise!) almost painless and much easier than she thought it would be. She said she felt a bit of a fraud having 3 weeks off work when she felt fine within a day or two. In fact, following this she actually booked an appointment to have a gastric band fitted! (I'm pleased to say that she didn't go ahead with that) but she said she'd never have dared before, it was only because the gallstones op was so easy. I was idagnosed with a stone about 3 months ago,but since then have only had 1 attack of pain, & none at all now for many weeks. So,I am hoping it has passed,as the Doctor said it probably would. It was left up to me whether I elected for surgery or not,& I decided to wait until after my holiday to decide as it may have compromised my insurance. But since I got back I haven't really thought about it much. If I get another attack, which as you know is excrutiating,I will be opting for surgery right away. Christian Posted August 30, 2008 Share Posted August 30, 2008 OH had his gall bladder removed in March, after suffering on and off for 13 years After industrial quantities of remegel and gaviscon (he thought it was indigestion), he had a very bad attack to the point where I called an ambulance. Gall stones were dianosed - the scan should show a black gall bladder with white stones - his gall bladder was white as there were so many stones. He had key hole surgery and is fine now. 4 tiny, tiny scars and no problems since. He has to be careful with his diet, just not too much fatty food. He still enjoys an indian takeaway though (thank goodness)! The Doctor prescribed pethidine as the attacks were so bad. If it is troubling you, then go for the op. The Doctor said you could live a perfectly normal life with gall stones, but avoid all fat - he meant ALL fat. What's the fun in that?? Christian Posted August 31, 2008 Share Posted August 31, 2008 I think the logic behind it is when you eat fat, the gall bladder secretes bile to digest the fat. The doctor didn't believe she had stones and she collapsed in his surgery one day. Apparently she didn't fit the profile. I had a scan last year as had a fair bit of pain on that side for quite a while. No gallstones (apparently it can be like a grumbly appendix and go on for years without stones showing up) but amazingly only one kidney!! A gigantic one at that. I never knew that Good luck with your gallstones. My mum (and other family members) all survived without their gallbladders. Fair Fat Fertile Forty & Female I didn't want to say what the profile was as didn't want to upset anyone I think that its rubbish anyway as that profile would probably not fit most of my family that have had gallbladders removed.
