rachel19
Hi, we've recently found these and found that they are really good for sticking in the washing machine instead of your normal washing stuff. They are fantastic and you can reuse them over and over again! http://www.soapnut.com They just make your washing smell clean with no other smell although yo can add essential oils to give a slight smell.........we have lemon and it's great! Would highly recommend them.

Guest
I like the versatility of this and it doesn't look too expensive either. I might give it a try.
sarahjm
this looks great Rachel - thanks for the link - I've ordered some and will let you know how we find it! S x
Lesley
I didn't order last time they were mentioned but I did want to try them so I've also bought some. Only problem I found was paying through Paypal - the site will only let you choose one item and then takes you to Paypal. I was going to order the 100g pot and a 200g bag to use as a refill but I've just ended up with the 100g.

Eyren
I've just ordered a small pot - my under-sink cupboard is long overdue for a clearout and tidy
Egluntyne
http://www.inasoapnutshell.com/ sells soapnut SHELLS and will send a free sample if you send an SAE. According to the website this product can also be used in the dishwasher, although it will not cope with a really dirty casserole dish. http://www.soapnut.com/sell soapnut POWDER. I ordered some powder on Friday and it arrived on Saturday. Full marks. Looks like cocoa powder. Have used it on towels and a mixed load. So far I am very impressed. The washed items appear clean and smell of nothing, which is my preference. You only have to use 1-2 teaspoons of powder. Haven't tried it on a really dirty load yet. For me the two acid tests are: 1. Do the clothes continue to smell fresh after several washes? and 2. Are collars and cuffs and white socks acceptably clean? If the answer is yes to both these questions, then I shall use the product long term. Will post thoughts on Soapnut Shells when my free sample arrives. PurpleHen
Hi Eglutine, Do you have an update on the Nut Powder? Thanks
Egluntyne
Hi Purplehen Have done a few more washes and I have to say that so far I am impressed. Towels...absolutely fine. Have done shirts, white underwear, socks, tee shirts and they are all ok. Did notice that one new white teeshirt had strange stains under the arms, but I have only washed it once...with Soapnuts. It may have been the same with Persil or whatever. The fabric doesn't have that clogged up feel that powders leave. Nor does it have that artificial smell that most detergents impart. Collars and cuffs ok so far. I found with Ecoballs that things were not especially clean and smelt musty after a while, so I guess that we need to experiment for a time. I suspect that whites may become greys after a while. If so I shall use some Ecover Bleach from time to time. I am happy to compromise a little to achieve maximum cleanliness with minimal impact on the environment. Am happy to sent you some powder if you like. 1tbsp will do 3 or 4 washes. Best to do it through Barbara.
Guest
I can't get any Ecover Bleach. OH rang Ecover and was told they are incorporating it into their washing powder so there is none currently on the shelves. has anyone else had difficulty getting this? Guest
Thanks Annie. Sorry to post twice, I just thought while I was typing that this was on the wrong thread really, so I put it on the other one as well.
AnnieP
well.....its still about washing clothes isn't it? Only vaguely off topic! Pretty good for us, I'd say!

PurpleHen
Eglutine - I'm happy to buy some myself and give it a go. Like most other people I use a lot of Ecover and home made products - and occsionally resort to stronger stuff when a good "spring clean" is needed. But for our clothes that only ever happens with OH's cricket whites! Will give the powder a go. I have used the nuts before and they were fine - but my OH just can't get his head round using just them - and as he does his fair share (ish ) I think the powder will work better for us. The Dogmother
If his cricket whites get bad Jackie, have you tried Napisan? It's an oxygen based whitener used for soaking terry nappies. I use it in all my white washes and it is great for removing stains too.
PurpleHen
No - never thought of that, and as I shall be soaking my own nappies next year - maybe this will be good practice.. (not literally my own of course )
The Dogmother
It's not expensive and really good. Rosie always manages to get grubby so I add it to most washes, but the whites get half Napisan and half regular washing liquid. When's the baby due?
PurpleHen
Due on Feb 2nd - so now I'm 14 weeks so can get excited about these things! Have been keeping a close eye on the washable nappy thread...
Egluntyne
Read this tip on another forum.... To get those annoying little greasy marks out of clothes , add 1 tbsp washing soda to the soapnuts. Haven't trid it myself but intend to as I have got a mayonnaise stain on my fave tee shirt. Him Indoors can't understand how I missed my mouth, with it being .. in his opinion... so big! The Dogmother
Aren't men so rude Washing soda is great for anything greasy, but needs rinsing well. I use ordinary laundry liquid and sometimes rub some of that neat into stains and it shifts them a treat.
