bracken
I tend to find the cheapest steam irons i can when it comes to replacing them. I think i am jinxed with irons because they always seem to konk out on me Even the most expensive ones! As for pegs,i use plastic ones because for some reason i find it difficult to handle wooden ones The feel of them makes me cringe? If i can get away with tumble drying something, then i will rather than hanging out to dry. I'm not one to keep running in and out to fetch it in and peg it out over and over again like me mum used to when i was younger> And i hate ironing! I have to force myself to do it! Mrs Frugal
I'm terrible with irons and have got through so many since I left home! I now buy a really cheap non-steam iron and use a plant mister with water and a few drops of lavender oil to dampen awkward to iron clothes. I don't get upset when I have to throw away cheap blown up irons anymore!
bunee1
Going against what others have said just to confuse you a bit more i've had a cordless iron for nearly 9 years and it's brilliant, as long as you return it to the stand when you want to put it down. It's a Moulinex 'Optimate' codless duo !....i think i got it in ARGOS.

theherd123
You all sound so domesticated. When i met my now husband i discovered he was a domestic God and in his house was a miagic washing basket - you put your mucky clothes in it and within a couple of days they reappeared back in the wardrobe I have never felt the need to question it

Cookie
Oooh - this is making me feel very undomesticated. OH does all the ironing in our house - but that's just his shirts for work, DS's karate kit and very occasionally a shirt for me. Everything else gets smoothed, folded and never seems to need an iron! I hate ironing so much I've just never done it. I do love pegging out the washing but I use wooden pegs and take everything out of the basket in any old order. Although thinking about it, I do peg out pairs of socks next to each other so I can fold them together as I take them off the line. Nothing worse than having to sort out a huge pile of everybody's socks. Cookie. xx
bracken
There are some lucky women out there! Dont think my OH would know which end of the iron plugs into the wall?

Nothing worse than having to sort out a huge pile of everybody's socks. Cookie. xx I also have to match pegs to clothes etc. but I never hang out underwear - life's too short I don't 'do' socks at all - they go in the wash in the same state they are left in the wash basket - they go into the drier and then into a pile on the bed. We each sort our own out and put them away. If they were thrown into the wash basket in a ball, then that's how they stay
Cate in NZ
I never realised there was so much variation in the way that we can do our laundry I put everything on the line, in fair weather, and not so fair but I'm hopeful it might hold weather. Pegs... any old ones, whatever comes to hand, I'm only fussy about the pegs that I use on woollens as I have some "padded" ones which leave minimal marks on delicate fabrics. I also have 2 of the circular things which have loads of pegs on them which I use for underwear... yes, my underwear, as well as everyone else's gets pegged out there I used to have a rotary dryer, but never felt that things got a good enough blow through, so after the last high winds caused it to buckle and bend I went back to the old-fashioned line and prop method. I love it I do own a tumble drier, but only use it in extremis, although I do find it preferable to radiators all cluttered with washing, so it does get pressed into service in the winter. Even then I'll use the washing line if it's not actually raining.... a stiff breeze and dry weather and things'll dry.... eventually Ironing... a tedious job which I delegate to hubby whenever possible, but I hate the crumpled look, so I do iron..... obsessively. Even tea-towels . I am better than my mother though... she even irons underwear I have one of the steam generator irons. I got it in a sale, but it was still expensive, but worth every penny. It does a great job of getting rid of creases.

Cate in NZ
I am better than my mother though... she even irons underwear My mother does too - and socks! Yep, my Mum's a sock ironer too . Even I think that life's just too short to iron socks, but it's her one redeeming feature in hubby's eyes . Drives him mad whenever she comes to visit, but at least he gets to wear crease free boxers and socks as she leaps upon my ironing pile with barely disguised relish
Hellcat
... send her my way, I reckon I can keep her happy for days with my ironing pile...
Guest
Life is just too short to iron shorts... My MIL very carefully puts half a ton of fabric conditioner in with her towels, line dries them, then IRONS them. Then she complains they aren't very fluffy.... Cookie
What is it with Mums (and MILs) and ironing? My mum is appalled I don't do any ironing. When she came to stay after DD was born, she too spent most of the time ironing - even the baby's muslin sick cloths!!! That's definitely a step too far. I think she'd have ironed the nappies if I'd have let her. Oh, and she also irons DS's non-iron school shirts - durrrr...... When its my turn to be a graqndmother you won't catch me coming round for a visit and doing the ironing I'll be far too busy nibbling baby toes Love, Cookie. xx
Guest
My mother has never done any ironing for me. She struggles enough just doing her (1 person's) own! And I always ironed my muslin squares! Sorry, I couldn't bear them unironed!
