Mel (& Paul)
Thank you I am so excited - I know they are doing a rescue in Surrey - but I havent heard from Jane - dont know whether to bother her or not - otherwise I'll just have to be patient and wait until Mid July
Cate in NZ
Mel, you lucky, lucky thing..... I'm quite jealous The rescue hens are lovely, such happy personalities, and it's wonderful watching them settle in, sprout new feathers and fatten up. I feel like we've had ours forever When we got ours Lisa (who co-ordinated our adoption) said that they're specifically selected as batteries because they have such placid, easy going personalities.... the farmers don't want any aggressive or highly strung hens in those cages , so they make lovely pets, and from my experience I'd agree with every word. Inquisitive too though, they hate to miss out if you're doing anything interesting I'd love to get more, but I simply don't have the space just yet..... but maybe sometime in the future

Mel (& Paul)
Well the arrived yesterday Only it wasnt a eglu It was a rablu Oops!!! Never mind! a will arrive on Tuesday and we are picking up the girls from BHWT on Saturday 15th July (day before my birthday - what a fab present!!) I have chosen names for them. Because of what they have been through I am going to name them after characters from the Chronicles of Narnia - and all four are in The Last Battle as well - rather apt I thought So, from 15th July I shall be the proud mum of Fledge - the winged horse from the Magicians Nephew Tumnus - the faun in the Lion the Witch and The Wardrove Reepicheep - the mouse in Prince Caspian Jewel - the Unicorn in the Last Battle Weird I know but I like them (a bit like (& Paul )

Mel (& Paul)
Has (& Paul) finished the new pen at the side of the conservatory yet? Bet it looks good The pen is finished - Paul just has to build some mezannine levels to give them more to do. Currently there are a couple of bushes and a pile of logs as well. We have also sectioned off the garden so when the girls are free ranging they are down in the woody bit and we are getting grass growing back again
Lesley
Mel - I love the names as well What a wonderful birthday present (Carl's birthday is the 13th - he's getting a puppy ) You could always have a couple of rabbits as well?
AnnieP
What a great idea Lesley: Mel: Tell them you'll keep the Rablu and want an Eglu too!
Mel (& Paul)
Ok guys. I will suggest taht to (& Paul). But I would imagine his reaction would be I did suggest that the rablu would suit Minky. Paul suggested a plastic bag I am still nagging him for another dog - the riding stables we go to has puppies - boder terrier / jrt crosses - and there is one without a home. Paul says NO (mind you he said no to more chickens after we had the first four, and now we are going to have 11!!!!) Paul is not so keen on the names - he wont remember them he says (poor old soul) Mind you the four woman cooks he calls the Newbies and he says he will call the rescues the newnewbies
