Guest
Don't worry Emma. Whatever will be, will be and it doesn't matter and doesn't make any difference. Your baby will be the best in the world (to you) and nothing can change that. I was always scared about the labour (4 times) but in truth I quite enjoyed it because it was all about meeting my baby at long last. It's exciting and thrilling and the most special time of your life!
Seagazer
Don't worry Emma. Whatever will be, will be and it doesn't matter and doesn't make any difference. I was always scared about the labour (4 times) but in truth I quite enjoyed it because it was all about meeting my baby at long last. It's exciting and thrilling and the most special time of your life! I second that. Actually my shortest labour was the most painful (sorry ) so I think the main thing is to try to relax and not fight against the contractions. I only learnt this in the last labour. Good luck and enjoy
Lesley
Yes, as Liz said, a short labour is very intense - my first was 7 hours but my second was born quickly Lovely words Ginette - and so true

The Brown Clan
I aggree with you about short ones being worse As I said in my previous post My Daughter took 45 mins from start to finish and it was the most intense no gentle introduction just Wham straight into it !!!!. But whatever your labour is like you will forget the pain instantly when you meet your new baby for the first time , its the most wonderful feeling in the world . good luck and do let us know if it is a boy or girl xxx
Goosey Lucy
Congratulations Aunty and welcome Seth. Emma: I have no profund advice other than do what your body is telling you to. Keep us posted!
Yorkshire Pudding
Please - no more postings about 24 hour plus labours Im going to have to go through labour in the next week, so more positive 'less than 6 hour labours' are more than welcome! Sorry Emma - my long labour does sound endless but actually the whole experience was lovely - I was only in hospital for the last 12 hours of it, so the first slower part was a really close time for me and OH. We were so excited to be finally meeting the person I had been making for nine months and when he finally arrived I was totally alert and awake for three hours or so despite being so tired. The same happened with no. 2 - such a huge rush of 'happy hormones'! Try to enjoy your labour and meeting Bean at last. And keep us all posted! We're off to see lil Seth tonight, we have been sent a few photos but still excited about the real thing! Good luck Emma! When's your due date? Do you know if its a boy or girl yet? theherd123
Oh i bet you cant wait for a cuddle! Good luck Emma! When's your due date? Do you know if its a boy or girl yet? My due date has been and gone! It was the 23rd but now hoping for anytime from Sunday onwards (dont ask - family stuff) We decided not to find out if Bean was pink or blue as you dont get many blank canvases in life and this is one, so Bean will be a surprise. You never know it might be green!
Chickvic
I know my first was 34 hours but it was very slow to start with. I was still trying to decorate my living room DD was 5 days early and I was still rubbing woodwork down on my hands and knees. We actually spent the first 2 weeks living with my mom and dad. It was the best way to start - she did all the washing, cooking etc. and left us to concentrate on our baby! Loved every minute!
Jules.
Congratulations Auntie MrsAllen08 Emma I think the length of labour depends from when you classify the start of it from....... if it was from the very first twinge of back/tummy ache then both my labours were really quite long. If you can get your hands on a TENS machine I wholehearedly recommend them, I borrowed my dad's one when I laboured with Ethan. I was curious to see just how well it was working, & turned it down for a contraction- I quickly turned it up to max again, I can tell you Ethan was a lovely planned home-birth, & Alexander's birth was fine too, but in hospital. Stay as relaxed as you can do, don't tense up is my advice to you. Just listen to your body & go with the flow. If a procedure is suggested to you & you had planned on no intervention then find out the reasons why this is being offered to you, so that YOU can make a fully informed decision about your baby's birth. I'll look forward to seeing photos of 'The Bean"
theherd123
Thanks for all the advice and positive vibes I have a TENS machine, a birthing ball, aromatherapy oils, birthing pool, gas & air and a brilliant OH who says he doesnt mind if i swear at him a bit so im sure all will be well!
