Christian
*rushes in to the sound of sleigh bells* I LOVE Christmas! Can you tell? So far, I have made several Christmas puddings, done lots of shopping, made jams/jellies/raspberry vodka etc for hampers and have lots of tins ready to fill with gingerbread men (and chickens) and mince pies. Will be making mincemeat next week Off to Hungerford today (if Work don't call ) to get small cake tins for Christmas cakes.

I'm taking my MIL shopping on the 17th and I'll see if she can choose some things and then I'll take my mum in early November and then the shopping really begins and wrapping done after the tree goes up (first weekend of Dec) yes that early! Hurrah! Buffie x

Christian
I have 43 miniature bottles of brandy, 17 whiskies, and a fair few cointreaus hidden from OH, ready for my cakes and Christmas puddings. Maybe I shouldn't have posted this as Buffie is on her way down
Lesley
Christian - you can use empty baked bean cans for small cakes as well - much cheaper! My grown up son helped me clear a storage room yesterday - and we found all the Christmas stuff. We have a few Santa hats with a button that you press to play Christmas songs..............they are a few years old now and the beautiful, tinny, music was really on a go slow.......... .....he went to clean the stock trailer..........I couldn't see what his problem was what's wrong with five hats all playing a mangled Jingle Bells? (he once worked in Booksale in the Christmas run-up - I'm surprised he can bear to listen to any Christmas music now - it drove him mad........by the beginning of November!) Lesley
what you should have written was "Santa? Lesley? " You're quite right - I don't like, or generally use, the word Santa........ but I do call them Santa hats .....................

Helly Welly
Think how complicated it gets in our house. DD knows about Santa now, but she has a younger cousin so we have to remember to talk about Santa when with her. Then, as we are not religious, we don't celebrate Christmas, but Yuletide! Many slip ups each year!!
Cinnamon
Then, as we are not religious, we don't celebrate Christmas, but Yuletide! Many slip ups each year!! Thats interesting. We are not religious either, but of course we all love Christmas & all its lovely treats. I always feel a bit hypocrytical about it,but saying you are celebrating Yuletide is a lovely way to get around this. We will be celebrating Yuletide chez Cinnamon this year
Helly Welly
We did a bit of googling to find how Yuletide was traditionally celebrated and came up with our own family traditions. We had to replace Santa with something as DD is our only child. We do an alternative Halloween as well, it's all good fun.
MedusA
What a brilliant idea to have Yuletide, Helly. I too am not religious but love all things "Christmas". I might nick your idea, if you don't mind. I will also give Kate's stollen a try. If anything I get more excited as I get older. We have a lovely old Victorian house and I do the whole "Dickens Christmas" setup, with roaring fire mulled wine and candles. Can I just add how much I LOVE this thread. Helly Welly
Feel free to nick my idea, i didn't invent Yuletide We just felt guilty about celebrating a Christian festival but some research on google actually made me realise that most of our Christmas traditions have nothing to do with religion and many come from the original pagan festival. We celebrate the end of the year, we just happen to do it on the same day as everyone else celebrates Christmas, otherwise we'd never get the time off work
redhotchick
Christmas crisis (already!) I'm making my Christmas cake, I've got my Christmas tunes on, felt like a Christmas tipple, no sherry! Oh no! Will have a glass of port instead, that's Christmassy isn't it? I did find 3 bottles of champagne, a bottle of Sauterne, 3 bottles of whisky and a bottle of gin I put some stuff "out the way" when I had a lodger last year. Sadly no Baileys! Thought I had some vodka and bacardi....best stock up!
Cinnamon
I always have Sherry in the house. I love a glass of ice cold sherry while cooking supper

Mrs Webmuppet
I am about half way through my Christmas shopping (thanks to Amazon and various other mail order establishments) The hampers are half done, I appear to be on target for once! Guest
I'm planning to do my Christmas shopping exclusively online as in order it to be delivered direct to Disney! I always find Amazon.com are EXCELLENT for delivering to American hotels and American hotels are well equipped to both take deliveries and hold onto them until you arrive!
