Can bantams fly high?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't say they're very flighty, mine have flown 4 feet max, and that was when the were a little over excited.

Everyday they flap up onto the mini hedge shrub on one side of the patio but it's below knee height.

And also, mine definitely hop, with and without their wings, so cute :D

Not silly! just good forward planning.. and your doing your research :D

Pekins are lovely .. there are far too many colours for me to know .. but as a starter there are..

solids like, black, white, blue, lavender, lemon

cuckoo.. in blue, lemon, lavender

mottled

mille fleur..

to name a few!

I will take some better photos of my colours at weekend if it helps.. i have black, blue and lavender.. all my favourites so was very lucky with my hatch!

The photos I have on forum already are mainly young chick pics so doesn't show the colouring very well..

Where are you based as I'm happy to show you my little ones or I'm sure if not in my area someone else would also offer if nearby?

Thanks!

Did you use a broody hen then?

What breed was she?

They look amazing !

Thanks Tom

Hi yes I did.. she's a Pied Suffolk full size hen.. it was a great experience but I wouldn't recommend hatching your own unless you look into every possible result.. such as problems or what you would do if any chick deformities and what you would do with the males.. parting with my cockerel was very hard as such a lovely chap and I was lucky as he went to a fab pet home.

Do recommend getting young pekins though as long as you can keep them seperate from your other hens for a good while.. they are so friendly!

Just take any intro's slowly keeping them in sight of each other but in different runs etc and I would say you could get them all together once older.. I'm no expert though as there is far far more experienced people on here!

hi tom

i personally think the lavender bantams are absolutley beautiful and definatley my favorite. if you find any let me know because i really want a couple... i'll sneak them in when the hubby isn't looking!:lol: as for mixing different sizes my silkie bantam lived really happily with three HUGE light sussex before she got broody. she isn't as small as a pekin but the ratio's are probably the same as mixing a pekin with a medium sized bird ... if you know what i mean!

good luck with the search and keep us posted ....remember to grab a couple for me :shh::lol:

cheers tom they are great birds arn't they

i need to do some shuffling about before i can get any myself

Zoe unfortunatly has prolapsed again worse than ever so my hubby is going to do the deed tommorrow morning before the kids get up. it sad but we have tried everything and each time we think she is sorted she pops out again. she is still laying but has gone really scrawny and pale bless her so i think its for the best.

also my two light sussex have been re-homed to a omleteer who can give them more room as she really likes the bread and was looking for a couple. we took the two on from someone who could no longer keep them and they are bigger than we really wanted, although they are very friendly and amazing layers. that will leave a sussex hybrid, beauty my broody bantam and seven chicks. as soon as the chicks are bigger and the other girls are gone i'm hoping to mix everyone together.....which wil convieniently leave a spare hutch and run....you can see where i'm going here can't you
