Reminiscing for the over 40s

Recommended Posts

I absolutely loved The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. My dad used to do shift work and he loved little house as well.

The music for the Waltons just sends me into a deep calm moment, it chills me out. Actually we watched The West Wing dvd last night and the music on that sends me off to a lovely place in my mind. :D

Did anyone keep s"Ooops, word censored!"s? Does anyone know what they were?:lol:

Little coloured pictures of pixies, gnomes, flowers, children or cottages. Pretty things really, some were adorned with glitter. Those were extra special. They'd be kept in a book, any book really, usually hardback. One s"Ooops, word censored!" per page and you would go through your book with your friend, who also had a book of s"Ooops, word censored!"s and if you were interested in any she had or vice versa, they would slide up to the top of the page like a bookmark to come back to once you had reached the end and were willing to swap. Then the negotiating began !!!!

I came across some a while back at an antiques fair and bought them - brought back lots of memories. Great days indeed.

I think it probably was a scottish thing Keyhole !! I get blank expressions whenever I've mentioned it in the past. The cherubs - leaning on a cloud if I recall, head and shoulders only, wings at the back!! Remember the ones that were too big for your book and you had to fold them in half?

I only remember keeping birthday cards and postcards in a s"Ooops, word censored!"book, yours sound much more fun. Didn't s"Ooops, word censored!"booking come back into fashion recently?

For my 3rd birthday I remember getting a cardboard cut out of a "Memphis Belle" type of doll with a magnet on her back. She came with an assortment of paper coats, dresses also with magnets to attach them to her. There were hats and other accessories which had paper tags on to attach to other parts - the hats had slits in to slide over the head.

Two more TV ones - The Buccaneers and Gilligans Island

Clootie, was the Michael Rodd programme Screen Test??

Egluntine - we lived at Beauchief (pronounced Beechiff for non Sheffield people!) We sledged down Abbeydale Golf Course. I think that it must have been between 80 and 82. I was at Jordanthorpe School which became Meadowhead School, as far as I know, is no longer there! Very sad!

The church where I was christened on The Manor has also been knocked down. What with The Tinsley Towers, don't know what's becoming of the old place!

**Meadowhead School** is still there, although you wouldn't recognise it!

It has been rebuilt at a cost of 18 million this year. Him Indoors used to be a governor there. Heaven knows why, as none of the children went there.

I live a hop skip and a jump away from Beauchief, and know the golf course......or at least where it is!
