chickencam
The longer cycles probably help in the Panasonic the longer and more slowly bread rises the better it tastes. I may one day buy a Panasonic, I have noticed today that my Morphy Richards bread pan is starting to wear again around the spindle. Does anyone have a panasonic which they have used every day for a good few years?
bronze
Do not get the Morphy Richards fastbake I have been trying ours on and off for th elast 6 years and have still yet to get a nice loaf. It was a wedding present so no chance of complaining and getting money back I've resorted to using the kenwood chef, airing cupboard and oven. I've been jealous of people who have th epanasonic ever since.
Omletina Kyckling
I have just been out and bought a Panny SD254 (decided I didn't need a nut/fruit dispenser for the extra £20 as I've always managed to add the ingredients with my Prima which I've had for about 8-9 years! I don't really like rye bread either so that didn't attract me....) I hope I've done the right thing!!
The Dogmother
Let us know how you get on Diane.
Omletina Kyckling
It's on! I've put it onto a basic white recipe, the 4 hour one, but it's not doing anything!! I seem to remember people saying that it only starts once the ingredients are at optimum temperature and my old farmhouse kitchen is rather chilly so I suppose it's warming up but it's very frustrating!! My tatty old one used to roar the minute you switched it on, but this Panny is more of a fancy pants one I suppose.... By the way, it backs up what various people said on here about Canadian flour - there's a slip inside the box where it says you should use good quality flour for best results and it specifically says that Canadian and North American bread flour is best!! The Dogmother
It 'rests' for a bit before it starts to do things. If you look at the screen, it should say 'rest'.. well mine does. Keep us posted!
Omletina Kyckling
Oooohh it's been a-mixing, I think it's probably now rising.....how will I survive the next 2hrs 55 mins before it's done?! My old Prima had a viewing window so you could see what is going on, that's the only thing I can criticise about the more modern machines, and the temptation is overwhelming to open for a little peep!!! Thanks all for your advice, by the way....BUT on your heads if it doesn't work tee hee
Looney
It's when you start getting the lovely bread baking aromas and your mouth starts watering that the wait becomes unbearable!!!! Hope your loaf turns out ok
FORENSICA
I have a Panasonic. It was recommended to me by a person who had it for over 3 years and she was baking every second day. I had it for about a year and something now and love it. The bread was always perfect, never ever had a problem. Having said that, I would probably now get a breadmaker which can make jam too, but at the time I was getting this one there was no such product on the UK market what I could find. Omletina Kyckling
Wow! wow! wow!!! I've just made my first loaf, and it's done...the smell around the house is unbelievable!! Here it is, my baby... How long do I have to let it cool to avoid total and utter indigestion which will keep me up all night, do you think? All I need now is an extension for my toaster... The Dogmother
I toast half slices Diane.
FORENSICA
I too noticed a problem with flour. When we had no income I bought cheaper flour and the loaves, especially wholemeal, didn't rise properly and the crusts were rock hard. Now I am back to Doves organic flours and the bread is so much better! We have pizzas every Friday! It makes an easy meal for me and the children love it. Their friends all like my pizzas too. and I can put banana on them! Banana Pizza! I'm not too sure about that one Ginette I love these! Every time I am in Sweden, I would order one. It has bananas, peanuts and curry powder on and it is fantastic! I almost forgotten about it here, so I think pizza for tomorrow it is
Tessa the Duchess
Wow! wow! wow!!! I've just made my first loaf, and it's done...the smell around the house is unbelievable!! Great loaf I have the same machine and mine don't rise as much as that one, I'm obviously using rubbish flour I find the loaves really difficult to slice if they are still warm, so be patient and wait 15 mins at least The smell is great isn't it Tessa

miffy
Hi, great looking loaf, smells good too I have not noticed american or canadian flour in tesco, are there special places to get it or do I need to look harder?? I use Doves organic, the white is 50p cheaper in our tesco than other supermarkets !!! wholemeal about the same everywhere.
Omletina Kyckling
I used Hovis bread flour with Hovis yeast. The flour is pretty old, so may be before the problems with the wheat (haven't made any bread from scratch for quite a while!) I had a slice or two with my neighbour (who brought me a bowl of stew for my dins) and it was superb, very light and airy, I'm a happy girl. We have also just polished off two bottles of red wine so I may be heading for my bed now!

Lesley
Sorry - a bit late to add my two 'pennorth now but I will anyway We had two Prima machines and are now on out second MR fastbake - we think it is brilliant! The long processing time on the Panasonic put me off the last time we needed to buy a new one. We only ever make bread with ordinary flour - Spelt flour, the same one I use for all my cakes and pastry. I can tolerate Spelt much more easily than any other wheat flour. We usually make a half and half loaf....half wholemeal spelt, half white spelt....and never have a problem. This is the end off our current loaf
Seagazer
I have a MR compact, which I love, apart from the paddle staying in the bottom of the loaf. Guess what I did last time I made a loaf. Left the paddle in the loaf, didn't use the whole loaf up and threw the lot in the bin Made the lady at MR laugh when I phoned up to order a new one

chickencam
Some branches of Tesco sell Carr's flour as do some larger co-op stores, this is as good as the Waitrose very strong Canadian, I use which ever I can get hold of. Nice loaf Omletina , am I right in thinking that they are slightly rectangular rather than square which is why they don't fit in a toaster?
Omletina Kyckling
The loaf is rectangular, yes, so you slice it like a normal loaf, rather than it being on its side, like the square ones....I made the XL size on the 4 hours setting so it rose very high, so I sliced it normally and then cut each slice in half to toast.....think it'll be bad for the waistline though as I still feel I need two slices I made another loaf this morning using the 1h55m setting with the same ingredients, for my neighbour and it came out really well too, probably about an inch or so shorter than the first one, but still a great success....tomorrow...wholemeal! Omletina Kyckling
Here is a photograph of loaf 2 made with the quicker setting, next to a partly eaten loaf 1. Both are yummylicious...I'm so grateful for the advice you all gave which prompted me to buy my Panny
Ambulance Girl
I've had a Panasonic SD255 for about 6 months now and I cannot fault it. I use Tescos own brand 48p strong white flour (1.5kg) with either Tescos or Sainsburys fast action dried yeast and have had perfect results every time!!!!
