kitbag
Hi guys, I need some medical advice ! I fainted in science yesterday (I've never fainted before in my life). I didn't eat much, but I had to finish off my ICT coursework at lunchtime. I had eaten breakfast, and had eaten a wrap at breaktime. My Science teachers had to carry me to reception, where a neighbour came and picked me up. Today my Mum didn't let me go to school, and I nearly fainted again despite stuffing my face with lots of chocolate (great excuse!!). I'm confused and a bit worried... AND i'm meant to be seeing the Kaiser Chiefs tommorow. Thanks guys Kitbag xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

bronze
Dehydration? I get faint if I dont eat or drink or when I am pregnant as I have low blood pressure. I don't notice I am incredibly thirsty until I keel over.
clootie
Vasovagal syncope is the medical term for a simple faint. The vagus nerve supplies a number of organs including the heart, and it's thought that some people have episodes during which there is an increase in activity of this nerve, slowing the heart rate and leading to a temporary lack of blood supplying the brain. Sometimes this causes a brief loss of consciousness, or faint. For reasons that aren't clear, vasovagal attacks are most common in teenagers, although they can affect children and adults of any age. or could be to do with blood sugar levels. Cinnamon
Hi guys, I'm confused and a bit worried... AND i'm meant to be seeing the Kaiser Chiefs tommorow. Me too!!!! I fainted a couple of times as a teen & both my girls have too. I think its pretty common to be honest. I have sought medical advice each time & have been told that everyone is 'allowed' a couple of faints,& especially teenaged girls So don't worry, & enjoy the gig tomorrow - I know I will If you want to say hi, I will be the lady with the mad curly hair, big bum & Crocs, standing at the back looking worried while her daughter is at the front

kitbag
hi guys... Clootie - i'm 15 and Cinnamon - My mum says i'm now not allowed to go to the concert, because i might keel over there - POO!! have a great time for me lol... My Mum says it might be a virus... i'm just very concerned about the whole thing lol!! Thanks for your help guys!!
clootie
Being a girlie too means a bit more in the light headedness and fainting department I'm afraid. Hormone levels and all. Do get checked though. Mum's just concerned about you. I'd be worried about my daughter going out to a concert if she had fainted recently too. Loud music, jumping around, rise in temperature. Not good under normal circumstances !! But then again, I'm an old dragon !!
The Dogmother
I hope that you feel better soon Hon, take care. If it wan't mid-week I'd have offered to buy your ticket from you. I have low blood pressure too and sometimes feell a bit dizzy. Luckily not so often these days. Best to get it checked out though in case you are anaemic. My Mum says it might be a virus... i'm just very concerned about the whole thing lol!! Thanks for your help guys!! Bother! Actually, there has been a nasty thing going around here - myself & both my girls have had it,along with half the school. Sore throat & dizzyness, then a cough, so probably best to keep warm, dry & safe.

Willow
I'm afraid the odd faint happens to many women - I used to faint if I had to stand up on high speed trains - really embarassing when I was younger and used to commute to London I got to the point I used to check out people sitting down and stand by a lady with a kind face so if I felt faint I could tell them and ask to sit down. alih
I used to faint all the time as a teenager, usually in assembly or latin. Don't worry about it, it is often linked to hormones and there doesn't seem to be much you can do about it if it is. But tell your mum I NEVER fainted at a gig and I used to go all the time.... poachedegg
I fainted about 4 times when I was a teenager and it was always in church (not the same one each time).......do you think I was being given special messages?!
quickcluck
Hi Kitbag... Try not to freak out too much about it all, or you'll make yourself paranoid!!! A GP check up is always a good idea, especially if this is a new thing for you...... there could be lots of reasons, most of which has already been mentioned, Low blood sugar, lack of food or water, or it could be dependent on that girlie time on the month! I would suggest that if you get a bit of warning tell whoever is next to you, sit done and lean forward, (head between your knees!) and have some sugar, choc or fat coke is always good Hope you are feeling better soon....... Cooks
I cant add anything more than what others have said but just wanted to wish you well Best to get the GP to check you over, that is what they are there for The concert is probably not the best idea, so I agree with your mum, just incase they are using strobe lighting etc.. which will not be good for you if you have just fainted. Hope you feel better soon xx
freddie
Been there!! Same sort of age when I did it too, always in the mornings. Try brisk walk at break time, and eat energy bar. try slow release food for b'fast like porridge. Dont worry about it. It will pass. I had ECG etc and all was normal(!!) for teenage female. get yrself checked, and then get on out there. Make sure you eat regularly!! Good luck with it!! Guest
I fainted a fair bit as a teen, I was anemic (sp) which apparently may have contributed. Once I was standing up at the front of the band and playing my clarinet when I went down, the audience said it was very dramatic as I didnt' crumple at the knee but actually fell straight forward! Didn't do my instrument much good. Another time I was having a head x-ray (dental) in a hospital. I was standing up and the machine was moving round my head and I remember thinking "oooh this machine makes you feel funny" Next thing I knew I was coming too and of course I'd hit my head as I fell. Oh and whenever I faint I throw up afterwards, which is far more embarrasing!

Hen Watch
Sorry about the concert...... I know it sucks...... but as a Mum too I can see why your Mum is concerned, all that heat and jumping about. She is right that you should give it a miss. Fainting...... gosh I fainted regularily from junior school until my early twenties. But I do know the cause....I am very squeemish. You mention you were in a science lesson......was it biology???? Any mention of blood, needles, cutting up frogs at school and I would drop like a stone and my Mum had to come and get me from school. I fainted on the train on the way to college when I was 17 just looking at a cut on my finger. Also fainted in Asda at the tills at lunchtime when I was 20, no blood around that time..... it was just that I stupidly hadn't had anything to eat and it was that time of the month too (which makes things worse). So making sure you eat in the mornings so blood sugar isn't low is important. Time of the month is a factor. As others have said, it is worth going to see your doctor. Even if they have absolutely no idea what it was and it is a one off, at least it is noted on your records that it happened. Don't worry too much and take care of yourself. chickenanne
Yep, I agree with everyone else: I faint occasionally (sadly, am no longer teenage)... woth going to your GP in case you're anaemic - not something you need to worry about - easy to treat etc
Seagazer
I used to faint occasionally as a teenager but I know that is because I have low blood sugar and low blood pressure. Best to be checked out and I probably wouldn't have let you go to the concert either (but only because I could have used the ticket) Hope you feel better soon
