Trish
Just a word of caution about feeding tuna to cats. Tuna has a very strong flavour to cats and if fed a lot of tuna they can come to regard anything without tuna in it as not food. Apparently that's why a lot of tinned cat food contains tuna even if it's not the named flavour, ocean fish covers a lot of things and is often listed as an ingredient on other varities. Also it's not wise to feed tinned tuna stored in oil as vegetabe oil tends to rob the cat's body of vitamin E. I only have this information from one source but the pet food manafacturers are hardly likely to say tuna's not so good when they use it to try and hook the cats onto their brand of cat food. The Dogmother
That's interesting Trish - I didn't know that.
Trish
I got it from a book called The natural cat. The author goes a bit overboard in places but the nutritional information is all stuff she's had from very close association with vets and animal health experts so seems likely to be accurate. buffie
I think we're going to get a kitten , Henry is 11 this month and Maisie is lovely but skittish because she was ferral so he has little house company. I am going to call rescues today and would like a ginger puss. It'll start out on this diet and no jabs BBx
The Dogmother
Andrew has a friend who has some ginger kittens - I am thinking about getting one. Georgie is missing having a friend, and she is so scared that it's almost like not having a cat at all. Besides I am broody after spending the morning with Lesley and carl's puppy! Eyren
Useful tip about tuna, Trish! We mostly only use it as a treat/pick-me-up for cats who are off their food, but I'll take care to ration it carefully in future... On the plus side, the kittens really enjoyed the raw mince I gave them yesterday evening - this morning, Maddie looked from OH to her bowl of kibble and back again, as if to say "But I don't eat this dull stuff any more!" It was just supermarket "value" mince (which AFAIK is just cheaper fatty cuts and thus fine for cats), as OH was out for the day so I had to rely on shops within walking distance. However the shop in Sawston that sells poultry supplies is also a stockist for Nature's Menu and AMP, so if their stuff's not too expensive I might give it a try. I'd like to find a good supplier of traceable mince and chicken wings, but I have only a small freezer and no space for anything larger
buffie
Well we have 2 additions, will post later, so they are having the same plus I found a veggie powder with lots of goodies in it (will get name later) so they are all having some of that and will buy some stuff as helen has suggested. More for the kittens than Daisie and the older cats. Well off to sort out the brood and get something done! BBx
buffie
I have had to contact farmers choice as I noticed a bag had a farm assured label and not the free ranage label. I have emailed and asked them to explain, as if this is only farm assured it's not as described and I won't buy anything else. I will be pretty mad too! Will post when I hear a response.
