crazygal
A bit of a random post I know but I would like to ask for you help- hubbie had a song on his brain- he'd heard it somewhere and couldn't get it out of his head- considering he's a bit tone deaf I managed to recognise it and could sing along... but we don't know the title or group!! Its driving us mad- it starts off with a piping band, quite slow, then one voice starts singing "once I was a poor boy, duh duh duh , duh duh in a marching band..." we think its an American band from maybe a few years ago, something like Good Charlotte but not. Sorry for the ramble

clootie
The lyrics search engines are coming up with only DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE. You'll need to try to remember more words I'm afraid !! Good luck

Good luck spooky, I've been singing that song in my head for the last cple of days. Not sure why but Ian and I both love the Bonzos but I'm also reading 'Margrave of The Marshes' at the moment and JP was always a big exponent of obscure bands and that might be why I've had Bonzo lyrics in my head, not sure but that's so spooky that you should name a song I've been singing to myself recently! Richard T
I feel so old now, my chemical who? I, also, am not familiar with the works of the pop group "The My Chemical Romance". I'll have to start watching Top of the Pops again. I have a Sam Cooke song currently going around my head.
Cinnamon
My youngest, is REALLY into all these emo/punk/new wave bands at the moment Actually, I love My Chemical Romance & have Teenagers as my ringtone. It does sound like 'Welcome to the Black parade' to me .... I have just checked on my itunes The first verse goes something like this When I was a young boy, my Father took me into the city to see a marching band. He said "Son when you grow up will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?" He said "Will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers, the plans that they have made? Because one day I'll leave you a phantom to lead you in the summer, to join the black parade." Hope that helps - its a cracking song (& Gerard Way,the lead singer, is very, very cute )
Ms Marple
I have to agree it can only be My Chemical Romance- but having sold out and gone mainstream according to my YS. Must be why I like this tune

Omletina Kyckling
......that was the song that the Formula one lot all mimed to in a musical montage at the weekend... If you go here and click on musical montage on the right you can see it (after their silly adverts first of course) http://www.itv-f1.com/VideoExclusives.aspx
crazygal
Thank you all!!! You are great- it is indeed that song- and I gave you so little information too Now I can remember the video too- I think we must have seen it a week or so ago on TMT? music channel on Freeview, it was in the top 40 music videos of all time or something. ah...its all coming back to me now!!# Hubbie will be pleased when I tell him later ( and thanks to Cinnamon I can now sing the correct lyrics too!!!) edit- thanks Omletina- just watched it- v. funny- especially liked the part where it said "place commercial here". Don't know how I missed that at the weekend- we were watching the grand prix but on slight delay on the dvd recorder so missed the last 10 mins of the programme due to the race being delayed. Gamebird
All I could think of was "Ever since I was a young boy" which is of course the opening lines to Pinball Wizard by The Who. Clearly way off the mark and about 40 years too late. Am I getting old? Yes.
Chook n Boo Mum
Never heard of it, but actually not bad, and yes the lead singer is cute - looks young enough to be my son (just!!) The other day whilst shopping I heard the new Pink album - yes I think I probably was in the non-food section of Tesco for that long!! - and was rather impressed! I have to be a bit careful saying that as my DD had a pink PSP for Christmas last year, which had Pink's current (at the time) track on it, with a video and explanation of it, which was soooo inappropriate for an 8yr old. Maddening when such extremely mature content has such a catchy tune & the child can memorise the lyrics in seconds. It's not nice to hear your young innocent child belting out (however well she does it!!!) I'm not here for your entertainment You don't really want to mess with me tonight Just stop and take a second I was fine before you walked into my life Cause you know it's over Before it began Keep your drink just give me the money It's just you and your hand tonight If you need explanation, just watch the video on youtube! (it's called U & UR Hand ) Sorry Crazygal, I hijacked your thread a bit there for a rant, but it was lyrics based...!! Sha x
crazygal
No worries Wild Mum! Your story made me snigger!! My Daughter goes around singing " I kissed a girl and I liked it! " is totally oblivious to the lyrics meaning.
Mrs Webmuppet
I quite like My Chemical Romance (I recognisesd the lyric straight away , I think the band are Canadian) but then I am an aging rock chick. Little Miss Webmuppet is a junior rock chick and can sing most of Avril lavignes songs ( complete with the accent) but has very little clue as to what the lyrics mean (she even has the sheet music & lyric book). I still think one of LMW funniest moments was singing along to Smoke on The Water right down to humming the famous riff whilst dancing round the kitchen. If you want to stop her charging around put on some Pink Floyd and she will sit down quietly!
