Plum
Hello, would chicken aunties like an update? I felt brave today and set up the netting and let the girls have a run round outside. They were quite alarmed when a seagull flew over, and ran for shelter. They must have picked up on me being so nervous. Was able to show them off to my son and his girlfriend. They go to bed at 4.30 prescicely. They are so funny, they make a little cooing noise and toddle up ladder in line with fluffy nickers showing. I've taught them not to sleep in nest box, or rather half in, half out by giving them a shove back into the roosting bit I've got straw in the nest area but am aware it may have red mite in it. So before I buy something to sprinkle in (and in the straw bag), should I get DE or red mite powder? Thankyou chicken aunties. x Edited November 16, 2008 by Guest

HENthusiastic
Hi Plum, They look adorable. So healthy and lovely looking. (Your son and girlfriend look quite healthy too ) I use redmite powder. I sprinkle it all over the house and in the dust bath. Smells gorgeous. Chicken purfume. Seagazer
Its a shame when they get scared of things flying overhead isn't it. Mine used to do that when planes went overhead (on flight path for just about everywhere I think!) and when magpies etc would fly over. They don't bother about it at all now. Your photos are lovely. Redwing
They're very friendly Plum, up on laps already! Glad its going well. I use redmite powder and DE but then I am paranoid! I would have thought just the redmite powder would do the job nicely.

blackgold
Thanks Plum, love your names by the way. My friend and I are still fighting over the Faverolles names, we have 2. One called Phoebe and the other called Pebbles (Pfion) she likes posh names....lol I still havent worked out how to put pics directly on the site. Have you a step by step idiots guide? Plum
Yes if you go to the FAQ section, it guides you through it. You need something like photobucket to do it. Instructions are really clear. Even so it took me a few goes. There's a list somewhere that suggests a load of names - ask Egluntine shes the font of all knowledge. Phoebe and Pebbles are good names
