little chickadee
That's a pity - I can't imagine the town centre without a Woolies.

Cinnamon
Is the pick & mix reduced? That might explain both daughters being desperate to go into town after school today
chelsea
im going to take back the vouchers I bought for Christmas presents and get my money back. My mum told me woolies have stopped selling them so no point in me giving them away if people cant spend them
sarah-w
I went to ours this morning (big W) I hadn't heard about the sale until I got there. It was crazy I had to wait for a woman to load up her car so I could have her trolley! There were at least 15 people at each checkout. Chook n Boo Mum
Just been in to local one, to spend the vouchers the children had been given previously - got a few bits & bobs which will be useful as stocking fillers, and a box set of Lassie films for about £6.50. Wonder if I'll cry through them again ?! The 50% discount doesn't apply to everything though, which I thought was a bit misleading in the news reports etc. Sha x

madchickenlady
As an employee, I'd just like to set the record straight. It is NOT a closing down sale, it is a way of generating cash quickly so that new stock can be bought. It is also NOT a 50% off sale, only cards and some gift items are 50% reduced, most things are 20%. Sorry, had to have a little rant because I've just finished a HORRENDOUS 6 hour shift where I was treated like rubbish by several extremely rude customers There are some bargains to be had, but once they are gone they will not be repeated We are constantly being told that we are not closing, yet today everyone in the company above area management level lost their jobs. Hmmm, I'm beginning to feel like a mushroom
Omletina Kyckling
Oh gosh, madchickenlady, what an awful time for you and your colleagues...I think we often forget the people at the shop front at times like this. There's so much uncertainty about at the moment, it's frightening. Hubby has just come back from working for Volvo in Sweden and his colleagues will be told today if they still have a job on Monday (they are laying off 20-25% of the workforce with no notice at the end of the day) I hope everything works out for you ok. I agree with everybody else, I don't think the High St would be the same without Woolworths, if that does end up happening (hope it doesn't!) Chook n Boo Mum
Sorry, had to have a little rant because I've just finished a HORRENDOUS 6 hour shift where I was treated like rubbish by several extremely rude customers I think that a lot of the misunderstanding on the customers' part is due to inaccurate reporting, but that's still no reason to have a go at the staff, it's not their fault after all's said & done. On the odd occasion I have had a go at a member of staff - essentially because the management are nowhere to be seen - I always apologise to them, usually several times during my ranting. I know this doesn't necessarily make up for the rant in the first place, but at least I try to be a polite unhappy customer. Hope everything turns out ok for you MCL (((hugs))) in the meantime. The Stratford store was heaving last Saturday - goodness knows what it will be like tomorrow
Mrs Webmuppet
Ipswich Woolies was heaving at 0920 this morning. I went to spend the Woolies vouchers that LMW got last Christmas but had left them on the computer desk where they disappeared into the chaos only to re-appear when it finally got tidied. They are still accepting vouchers you just can't buy them. Rather bizarrely whilst in the rather long queue for the check out the lady in front of me was looking at the pile of kids tights I had picked up and said about the credit crunch and that the best thing she had done was to get chickens............it certainly passed the time spent in the queue! (she wasn't an Omleteer she had a Forsham Ark!)
Shirl
Been to our local Woolies. It was busy but not heaving and the queue was pretty short (3 people in front and 6 tills open). I picked up a set to paint and then bake a plate for only £1.20. I thought it would make a cheap pressie for grandparents from the girls for Xmas. I didn't see much else in there that took my fancy and some stuff seemed to have gone up in price so they could take 20% off although unless you took it to a till you wouldn't know for sure. I hear the pricing has gone a bit mad recently so what is one the ticket isn't always what you pay.
