Pets and Christmas trees

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have posted a similar post on the rabbit forum but have had no replies, So am opening up on here.

I have a house rabbit and its the first christmas I will have had her, she like to chew everything and I am wondering how to protect my christmas tree. What do other people do with destructive pets? She will be out in the same room as the tree.

Thanks very much

Jen

Sorry, I have no experience with house rabbits but I did have a Labrador Retriever who used to collect all the tree decorations and bring them to me, very carefully, one by one so we ended up with a half decorated tree.

Maybe you could put your tree on a table so your rabbit cannot reach it. Or is it possible to put a barrier around the tree.

Our rabbit used to pinch the choccies off the Christmas tree - until we actually caught her - I thought it was DS! Also she managed to prise open the Quality Street tin after we saw her belting through the hallway with a green triangle in her mouth (maybe someone else hadn't put it back on properly). Potty bunny!

I would suggest anything smelling of chocolate should be put well out of reach - we had a dwarf lop, but even she managed to stretch up high before rolling over backwards. Proper choc isn't good for them (not much good for me either  ), she had to make do with mini corn treats instead.

Other than that the tree decorations were quite safe, although we did watch her to make sure she didn't go under and chew the wires - which she had done in the study to OH's computer - he was not amused.
