chelsea
Off to a hair salon today.....havent been to a salon for years (usually have it done at home) Am very very nervous (butterflies in tummy) Im sure the cost will also make me go too, having cut by "artistic director" and colour. What's the average cost these days?
xChicken04x
Last time I went it was £53 for a wash, blow dry and a few highlights . Good luck, enjoy your self!
moochoo
Aaaw you'll be fine. The last time I had my hair coloured, the total cost plus cut and blow was £65! Glad I've decided to stay au naturale for the time being
Cinnamon
I haven't been to a Salon for years either. I am very lucky that one of my best friends used to be the top stylist in the smartest salon in Henley, so we go to her I think I would balk at the cost too Make the most of it, have a nice coffee,& enjoy the experience! Guest
hmmmm, could be the best part of a £100 for what you're having done, if it's somewhere like Toni & Guy. Maybe a bit less if they're less well known but that 'artistic director' title probably adds 20% to the cost When I was working, I'd treat myself to a salon 'do' once a month but now I have a mobile hairdresser that comes to the house and it costs a tenner, but she does a lovely job Enjoy it and take advantage of the complimentary drinkies, they might even have champers! Tessa the Duchess
I hate going to salons I have a mobile hairdresser who is lovely although he does charge £40 for a cut and blowdry He does a great job and we have a laugh and a gossip over several cups of tea Tessa
chelsea
thanks for your feedback, I will let you know later how it went. Feel sick,.... I usually have a mobile hairdresser but tbh getting a bit fed up the same old style and fancied a really good cut by a top notch hairdresser, plus I couldnt get an appointment with my usual girl (my fault- left it too last minute)
Cooks
I always get butterlies as well, I hate having my hair cut, which is why it is too long at the moment and also the need to tie it back/up for work.
KimmyCustard
I love having my hair done, my hairdresser has been doing my hair for 18 years, has been through my 2 divorces, job changes, boyfriends, operations, babies - hers not mine, we're nearly related! She is always completely honest, when I appear with a ridiculous photo of a hair do that I want her to create on my fine hair, she tells me how daft I am, how totally different that person's hair is to mine and then has to 'magic' an alternative! Mine is about £45 for a wash cut highlights and blow dry at her house. Its about £85 round here. Kimmy x
jlo
Hope it all goes well for you. I always have this fond hope that I am going to come out of the salon looking wonderful Never actually happens! The last time I went for highlights I specifically said that I didn't want it to be so subtle that no-one noticed. Gess what - no-one noticed. I wouldn't mind but it was over £100 Let us know how you feel afterwards.
Mrs Frugal
Chelsea, how funny ! I went to the hairdresser for the first time in 2-3 years yesterday and am delighted with the results (goodness knows I needed it sorting out too!!). Mine was only £36 but our local hairdresser is notoriously cheap. Hope all goes well and that you come out feeling very glam.
Guest
I must be getting old because £36, to me, is expensive!
Mrs Frugal
It was quite a big job, Poet. I think she earned it .

I love my hairdresser, she has become a friend over the years. First time I went to her she examined my hair and said " Hmmmmm.....I love a challenge"
Mrs Frugal
Nothing radical really, Egluntine, but as it hadn't been touched in years, it was a bit of a mess!! She's put in lots of layers, sorted my horrible fringe out and emphasised my curls so it looks much less frizzly and much softer . I can wear it down now instead of tying it up all the time. Looks better down than up for a change .
Guest
It was quite a big job, Poet. I think she earned it . can you imagine how I agonised over the cost of the cube! I always remember as a child when elderly people used to think 10p was expensive for a bag of crisps. I've started doing the same thing, except crisps aren't 10p any more, 45p a bag, it's scandalous! Paola
I love going to the hairdresser It is the very few times that I am able to relax, drink coffee and read mags without having to worry about the kids I always feel very pampered afterwards Am due again next week only because OH is treating me. I try to hang it out as much as poss between each appointment as it is not cheap £110 Anyway this is how OH looked this week after going to his hairdressers

Mrs Webmuppet
A cut, colour and blow dry is £54 at my local hairdressers, we have a lovely lady who does both my hair and Little Miss Webmuppets hair. She too looks at my hair as a challange......it's thick and wavy (we usually settle for a style involving organised chaos!)

Ain't Nobody Here
I can totally sympathise with that feeling of nervousness . I went to the same bloke for over 20 years then, when he kept refusing to cut my hair short (I'd had enough of it long) I defected (very nervously) to a salon. I like going now and she did make my wavy/frizzly/wonky hair look the best it had for years. It cost £34 (which seems like a bargain compared to what you lot have to pay ). I especially like the head massage you get after a hair wash - I could sit there for hours having that done .

chelsea
LOL @ the picture Paola ! Well am extremely pleased with the result, really dont know what I was worrying about. She did x3 blonde colours in my hair and razor cut my whole head so I feel 10 times lighter....and yes feel like a new woman! Pleasantly surprised with cost - £76, I took £100 just in case. Thanks for your encouragement folks, I get so anxious about doing anything "new" these days (must be old age! )
