Guest
After a bit of the collective wisdom here. I'm still in Florida so going to see a doctor isn't totally straightforward. I've been having eye problems for a few days - they started off itchy and sore, like an allergy. Then one evening they started streaming. I got some eye drops and they do give some relief. When I get up in the morning they aren't gunky and don't look particularly red inside but the lids are red, puffy and sore. My vision is fine in the day and my eyes feel sore but not itchy or running. Once the light starts to go they are itchy, streaming and my vision is deteriorating - during the day I see fine but at night it's like I'm suddenly shortsighted again (I was years ago, had laser treatment). This has all started since I was here - as I said I don't think its conjunctivitus as my eyes aren't red (just the lids) and my eyes aren't gunky in the morning. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm suffering from? Of course in the evening when they are playing up I'm driving - I'm the one on the insurance and Mum well she doesn't like driving at night too much as her night vision is poor - she is waiting to have another catarract removed! Plum
Don't know. It could be blepharitis which is inflamation of the eyelids caused by bacteria or allergy. You need to see a doctor really. You could try bathing them and adding artificial tears. Have you changed your makeup lately? Sorry not much help without seeing you.
Lesley
A warm salt water bath might help? - and certainly won't hurt.

That's what I've been thinking Plum Try some sterile eye wash Pengy, but it may only ease the symptoms, I think you really need to see a doc. Cinnamon
You have had a long flight out there & that is very dehydrating. I would suspect that that, along with the hot weather, has caused an infection - the nice Floridian Doc will sort you out in no time
nicki9
Hayfever? I know it affects me worse in the morning and evening

abwsco
We always found the pharmacists good at Walgreens. Could be worth a try.
Angels4
If you can find a CVS pharmacy in the area.....Some have what is called a "Minute Clinic" there will be a physicians assistant who should be able to see you and prescribe something. Below is the address and telephone number of one in the Orlando area....perhaps you can ring them and find one closer to where you are. Good Luck. 839 NORTH ORLANDO AVENUE WINTER PARK, FL 32789 407-647-1862

Tiggy
sounds like blepharitis to me, you need to see a doc
lizinsa
Sorry for hijacking the thread Pengy but can I also ask about my eye infection? The area underneath my eye, from lower lid all the way down to my cheekbone is swollen. It's a bit itchy and hurts if I close my eyes but not I do a normal blink (does that make sense?) The eye itself is not red or anything? Don't really want to sit all day at the Drs waiting for an appointment, I don't want to waste their time nor do I want to pick up the V&D bug that's going around. Is there anything I could pick up from the pharmacy?
Tiggy
let your pharmasist have a look, they are very good at deciding if OTC meds will help, sounds like an allergic reaction but it may be cellulitis which needs antibiotics,
MedusA
My first thought was cellulitis too, lizinsa. I would follow Tiggy's excellent advice and see the pharmacist. If they feel you need a doctor they will tell you so. Hope you get your eye problems sorted too, Pengy. Must be very annoying for you. Trish
Lizinsa please do get that checked out, most likely nothing too bad but middle son had something that sounds the same and it turned out to be an infected cyst that needed antibiotics to prevent scaring. Peggy if you have Lavender essential oil on you you could try 1 drop into 200ml cooled boiled water, shake well and use that to bath the outside area of the eyelid, should be soothing and anti bacterial too. As with anything near the eye stop immediately if it starts to sting.
lizinsa
Advice duly noted, off to the pharmacist this afternoon Thank you this forum is great! Hope your eye is feeling better pengy!
Egluntyne
Bathing the eyes with cooled tea (no milk, no sugar) is very soothing and mildly antibacterial.
Guest
One of the suggestions here had me google an eye problem and that mentioned Sebhorric Dermititus (sp). It was like a light going on in my head I'VE HAD THAT BEFORE!!! In the eyelid area. I've been to CVS and they recommended just keeping on with the drops and seeing a doctor when I get home - of course I get home on Saturday so that will be Monday - luckily our GP is pretty good and you can usually get an appointment the same day, also Monday is a training day so I should be able to carve out some time. Thanks again all.
