craftyhunnypie
We've been away in our caravan & normally it is so warm & cosy. But the site had dodgy electrics..so we had to use gas. We have used 2 full gas bottles & ran out last night. So it was hot water bottles last night & very chilly. The water pipes in the van totally froze the other night & we had to put the hot water bottles on them to defrost, as we forgot our hairdryer! Egluntyne
*gulp* My boiler is switched off and temporarily "condemned". Frozen exterior pipes have caused the internal tranklements to burn and melt , it is actually dangerous for the time being. Exterior pipes relagged and parts ordered. The gas man, who was lovely is coming back tomorrow to replace the burnt bits and hopefully we'll be warm again this time tomorrow. Thank goodness we have 2 coal fires and a gas fire. Now...anyone know where I put the hot water bottles?

Egluntyne
Tempting! OS has got the fires blazing, (has inherited his fathers pyromaniac gene) so it isn't too bad.

Egluntyne
When I think about it...I grew up in a house that had no central heating, ice cold bedrooms, Jack Frost on the inside of the window panes...paraffin heater in the bathroom and an open fire in the sitting room.....so did Him Indoors. We are laughing at how wimpish the boys are being about it all.....although they have been very good about bringing coal in.
Paola
Hope that it gets sorted soon Egluntine, I don't envy you at all without a boiler *brrrrrr*
Ardene5
Hi Everyone Hope everything gets sorted out reference the boiler. If you have a caravan move into that as you can there get the heat on and get warm. For a time a few years ago I spent the winter months inside a touring caravan and although not the ritz it was much warmer than you could think of as it was snowing outside. Gas for cooking and heating was like toast some days. Best regards Ian

Groovychook
When I think about it...I grew up in a house that had no central heating, ice cold bedrooms That's my house!! We live in a rented cottage with no heating- just a solid fuel rayburn in the kitchen and an open fire in the sitting room! Lovely for most of the year but at present, I'm sat here wearing more layers than I care to remember, a hat, a down filled coat- with the hood up and am tempted to put my gloves back onto my freezing hands! It was VERY hard to get out of bed first thing and involved a frantic dash to whip my clothes on as quickly as possible! At least I am at one with my chooks- sometimes think it might be warmer in the cube with them! I really hope you manage to get it sorted soon though And when you do, I'll be very
Egluntyne
I certainly had the quickest shower imaginable today. I longed for that little paraffin heater!
Ana's flock
I feel for you... our boiler packed up in January 2008 and we couldn't get a plumber who'd replace it at a reasonable rate until April... all the boiling water to wash with plus wearing lots of clothes indoors... brrrr, not nice, specially in this extra cold winter. I hope you get the heating back soon.
