Old chickens, new chickens cockerels and chicks - PICTURES!

Recommended Posts

Having seen all the lovely pictures on here of peoples new chooks I thought I'd add a few of my own. (plus if anyone has any idea what Honey is - given to me as possibly a Brahma, if she is she's a bantam one, she's certainly got a Brahma shaped head I think but she's so well covered for her age......anyway)

Here's Honey and also Bumble2 the cream legbar

Here's Scruff my beautiful Brahma boy - can't keep him much longer, he's not so much treading the girls as trampling them to death  although he hasn't cock-a-doodle-doo'd yet

And the last hatch - Maisy and Spots the Indian Game bird and the Silver Laced Wyandotte - also a bantam by mistake :?

followed by Dandelion the he / she Buff Orpington, then Maisy and Daisy the Indian Game birds and Bob the Rhode Island Red cockerel (also known as dinner!)

gorgeous!

Thanks for the pics Mrs B.

How old is Scruff the cockerel? he is quite stunning (must be show quality surely? )...the reason I ask is you say he's not cock-a-doodle-doing yet (and Im wondering when my hen who I think is a boy is going to start crowing) :anxious: .

I love your brahma. I had to rehome two brahma cockerels December 2007.

Your boy is gorgeous.

I remember! I will be very sad to see Scruff go - he was called Scruff as he was SUCH a tatty chick, not at all gorgeous until he properly feathered up. And he is about 30 weeks old, he's obviously mature enough to be treading the girls but no sign of a crow although it can't be far off. That said Brahmas are slow to mature and he had Fred as the dominant cockerel for a long while (well about 6 weeks) so he never crowed. The guy I got the egg from and where I have got ALL my eggs and hens (apart from the ex-batts) is going to have Scruff back so he can live as a stud, lucky boy!!

I wish I could keep him but realistically not until I live my dream and I'm certainly not going to eat this one!
