Egg Skelter

Recommended Posts

My round ones get stuck quite often, I think I now wished I'd bought one of the bantam ones as I understand that they are also ok for normal hen eggs too. Perhaps when all 7 of my girls finally start laying (only 3 at the moment) I can get another one. Can't imagine what I'm going to do when I finally start to get 7 a day  .

How long can an egg last on the egg skelter? I thought it would be better storing them in the fridge?

Here are a couple of threads to help you make up your mind! Most people keep them out of the fridge and the general feeling is that they last 3 weeks (if you ever keep them that long!)

Sadly I was a bit late getting my 'order' into Santa for Christmas. Still, birthday in March, so I've not given up hope just yet . The question now is will the Skelter arrive before egg production re-starts in the Spring. I certainly hope so, OH had to start buying eggs from Waitrose again in December, which was a bit hard to take .

Now, of course, that might be just the excuse I need to win the 'we need more hens' debate. A couple of hybrids should do the trick .

Spring started very early for me yesterday when I had one of my new girls lay for the very first time. Another one has suddenly started to grow her comb - it has doubled in the last day I think  . So maybe you won't have to wait too soon and cancel your order with Waitrose fingers crossed.

I think the best option all round is MORE HENS :lol::lol:

Egg skelter arrived today, less than 1 week after order - not bad considering the low-tech ordering system.

It's the green one!

All our eggs are varying shades of brown, and there seem to be quite a few where we can't tell which is the 'pointy' end, but they still look very pretty.

We have some like that Latte lays lovely brown eggs that are almost round, but they look lovely on the egg skelter which ever way they go, in contrast Ebony lays long thin eggs, no doubt which is the pointy end there. At the moment that is it for eggs the other two have given up this laying thing, anyone would think they were pure breeds not mixtures

I like the look of the egg-spiral that's in the omlet shop. With four pure-breeds I shouldn't need to store more than a dozen and it looks GORGEOUS!

Am I getting a bit carried away after just one egg? :anxious:

No of course not  The spiral in the shop is the egg skelter :D I love mine and they only get stuck if they roll down to fast and spin round
