Ecover rant

Recommended Posts

I have used ecover non bio washing powder for years and years and years. Last week it was £3.86 now it is £5.63 at Ocado and the same at te£co :!: :!

Looks like I'm going to have to find room to store the big boxes now :( Seems odd paying nearly £30 for washing powder in one go though!

After reading the other thread on here about soda crystals (Sometimes called Washing Soda) I looked up it's various uses. It says if you add some to your laundry load that you'll use less detergent. This could help your supply go further and so hopefully offset the price hike as soda crystals are really cheap.

(There's always BioD as moochoo said. Check out the other pages on http://www.thegreenstoreonline.co.uk )

That's what I am doing, I use one tablet of powder and an equal amount of soda crystals per wash. I haven't noticed any difference so far, except in the amount of washing powder tablets I am not using! Some washes I just use soda crystals, and I was given some of those wash balls before Christmas too, a pack of three with three refill bags. I am hoping to spend maybe a tenner on washing stuff this year

Thanks everyone :) Will investigate further. Haven't tried Bio D so will have a look at that. Does anyone who use it have excema though as I've found that Ecover is the only one that doesn't upset DD's excema. Also, does it smell at all as I can't bear any smell of washing powder on clothes.

I already use far less powder than they say but might try cutting back more and adding soda crystals as well.

I use the Ecover but find it expensive so I also use the Simply Washing Sensitive tablets on washing with no real dirt/stains on and on dark clothes prone to fading, they are very good, they smell a bit but its a clean neutral smell rather than scented and since using them to wash things like undies, t-shirts, socks and vests etc... my previously very itchy skin is absolutely fine.

they come in a little tub and you can get away with one tablet per wash, they go straight in the drum. They are a reasonable price in most supermarkets (but I have seen them a lot more in others for some odd reason)

I do suspect their their 'green' credentials are not very airtight though

Have tried those and raved about them at first but then DD's excema started to get worse so stopped and it cleared up. Think it must have been the perfume in it :(

I did used to use good old Acdo years ago but then they changed the formula :(

Bio-D is great, I far prefer the washing-up liquid to Ecover.

Ecover non-scratch cleaner is good though as well as the dish-wash tabs and the loo cleaner. Sometimes you can refil bottles to save a few pennies at hippie type shops.

I get Bio-D at Oxfam as I prefer to let them have the profits.

I use Bio-D and find it great. I do also have a sack of soap nuts but find they just can't cope with DS's filthy clothes!! I do try to remember to use them on lightly soiled items.

I get my Bio-D from Suma Wholefoods as, with some friends, we have created a small co-operative and get a delivery every couple of months. I also get bulk orders of flour, pasta, rice, nuts, seeds, tinned tomatoes and beans, loo roll, washing up liquid etc. It works out much cheaper than buying at the supermarket. Their minimum order is £250 I think and you can open an account with them as long as there is no shop that keeps their stuff near you.

We use the whole range of Bio D products. The laundry liquid is odourless and I haven't had my eczema reoccur while using it.

We did also use those washing ball things for a while and they do work very well, so I must look into recharging those and using them again.

I suspect that the collapse of the pound has something to do with Ecover's price rise, as it comes from Belgium, I think. Bio D stuff is made in the UK.
