JSI Insurance - anyone used them?

Recommended Posts

Because ES passed his driving test yesterday (yay) I had to up the car insurance. It has now gone from £100 per month (me and DD) to £256 a month  This apparently according to my husband equates to £3000 a year!

I've been logged on virtually all of yesterday to Compare. The best quotes are for Diamond and Admiral at £1500. Compare just phoned and said they had a more favourable one with a firm called JSI Insurance. I've never heard of them and given the current economic climate I'm a bit hesitant. Anyone ever heard of them?

I feel like I should just go with Admiral or Diamond. My head is about to burst.....

Haven't heard of them. How are Direct Line coming up as I've been told that they can be quite good although they've always been the dearest option for us.

My daughter ended up saving for her own secondhand car and getting insurance in her own name through Churchill as we needed a mortgage to put her on our car. She's not passed her test yet as she's given up after failing  so congratulations to your ES :D

Your daughter shouldn't give up. This was Tom's 3rd attempt.

I've just looked up what it could be and its JS Insurance which is backed by AXA so I will wait for them to phone me and see what they have to offer.

I just don't want to give my money to a company that is either going to go bust or be a pain if we ever (god forbid) had to claim.

I learnt to drive last year and my parents brought me a car to practice in. My insurance last year was around £1200. We did it with Quinn(however i didn't do much research into them beforehand and probably wouldn't have gone with them having since read bad things about them. Luckily i didn't have to claim so it all worked out)

My renewal letter has recently come through and Quinn are charging £850 with Kwiksave a similar price plus MOT and a better deal in general. So i think i'll change to them, just need to ring up and sort it out now.

I have never heard to JSI insurance. Is there a big difference between prices?

Congratulations to your son for passing!

I never wanted to learn to drive but my parents really wanted me too so paid for my lessons, now i'm really glad i can drive(my mum definately is as i can now pick up siblings and do odd jobs so she doesn't have to!)

We're with Quinn at the moment - I hadn't done any research on them either. It was only afterwards that I heard that they really hoik the price up once the learner has passed. I understand why they do this, because of the fact that young boys may not be the safest drivers, and so does my son (lost 2 friends in car accidents in the last eighteen months  ) but you would think they would want to be competitive.

I have said to my ES that he has to contribute. He is an apprentice so on a really rubbish wage at the moment but he will put towards the cost. My DD is at uni and not here very often so I don't think its fair for her to pay  I think we are soft touches really

Hi Ann,

Don't buy his insurance in your name! Have been in the same position as you with 2 teenage drivers........but at that time they didn't have wives. girlfriends (serious or otherwise!,mortgages so could afford to build up their own no claims discount. If it's on your insurance the only person who pays is you. make him take responsibility in his name ( even if you help out financially!)

He will thank you for it in the long run....if he drives sensibly and doesn't have to claim. Another incentive!

Good luck! and well done him!

Hi

The only JSI is a broker who gets quotes from other insurances look them up on the web.

JSI

Get quotes from top UK insurers including...

AXA, Norwich Union, Budget, More Than, Quinn Direct, Swiftcover, Endsleigh, Yes ...and many more.

So why not find a broker near home and let them get YS a quote in his name for a small car or get a car with a offer of insurance included so he pays for it all.

Do not put him on your insurance if he has a crash you will pay for it.

Happy hunting

Best regards

Ian & Valerie

I drove on my dads insurance for a year when passing... oooh many many moons ago, but I still paid him the extra that it cost to put ME on HIS insurance. He said it would hold me in good stead when I had to pay for my own.:lol::lol:

It did though!, a year later my car was restored (1957 austin A35) and I took to the road, albeit on a classic car insurance which was a godsend really.

Well done your son for passing, it took me two attempts, the first time I couldn't stop my left leg from shaking no matter waht I did..:roll:

Thanks everyone - the trouble is that we have paid the insurance for DD for the last 3 years so would feel really mean making ES pay for his. He already has middle child syndrome :lol:

We all share the car as well, he's not in a position to buy his own car at the moment although he might buy out his sister's share of the car eventually (we gave her half the previous car for her 18th birthday and then we bought this new one last year). She's hardly here and he wants to put lots of 'boy' things on the car

I think some insurance companies let you all build up your NCD so I think I need to check on that as well.

My insurance with Quinn went up by £300 when i passed my test.

Also when i was looking at compare sites to get my insurance for this year we used Compare and it came out really expensive and lots of insurance companies wouldn't insure me. We went on to Tesco's comparison site and inputted the same info and it was loads cheaper sometimes with the same company. So maybe its worth trying another comparision site to see if it makes a difference.

I used Direct Line, but from their site on the net, not a Comparison site. My costs are £415.00 a year fully comp insurance for myself, OH and 3 youngsters aged 18, 20 and 22 years. I do however have a reasonably big excess and more if one of the under 21's is involved.

I've actually looked at Direct Line this afternoon. It is a lot cheaper with them (rather than £256 with Quinn  it will be £115 :D which is only £15 more than I was paying before ES passed) and the kids can build up their own NCD all on the same policy. What's more ES has agreed to pay his share so its all good here. Hopefully tonight I won't dream about insurance - I actually had lots of dreams about insurance last night.

Thank you everybody - you are all so kind. :D
