Run Flooring

Recommended Posts

At the moment we have a converted climbing frame covered in chicken wire as a walk in run. it's been up for a few years and has been really good, but the door is only waist height so you have to bend down to get in, and when its been raining it gets really slippy.

I'm thinking about building a new walk in run with a full height door, but am wondering on what peoples preferences are about flooring (it will be fixed in place). It used to be grass and is now mud.

Should I keep it as it is as get wood chips or put it on slabs so that it stays dry.

Or does anyone else have any suggestions or inspiration?

Hi

I think somepeople slab the run floor (there seems to be a lot of problems with rats tunnelling into the run) . some people have an earth floor with bark or auibose. You can use these also on slabs. At the moment (I don t have a walk in run) my eglu is on slabs with bark over - it seems to work ok)

Hope this helps

So it looks like slabs are the way to go

At the moment they are behind the greenhouse so we can't see them from the house, but I want to switch them to the other side so we can see them.

Dad is having none of it and wants them where they are.

His theory then is that we'll have 2 runs so I'll want twice as many chickens :lol:
