mostin
Over the last 4 nights some "people" have kept coming back and breaking in to our neighbours on each side of us. not their houses but their garages and out houses. They keep coming back and having another go. And last night they started on us . We all have really big gardens and can't see all of them from the houses, we've all spent the past days beefing up security and putting up security lights. The police don't care, it took them 3 days to turn up to the 1st report so all the finger prints had washed off by then . Who knows when they'll turn up to us. Luckily my OH only came home at 2 in the morning and we think he disturbed them as we found all the stuff they had taken at the top of the garden. They have trashed the locks on 3 of the sheds though. I am really worried about the safety of my girls as we all think they are going to come back again. I have brought a cardboard box with bedding in it into the kitchen. Once my girls fall asleep we are bringing them inside for the night. If they steal or damage the eglu, so be it. But my girls can not be replaced. What kind of world do we live in? I live in a lovely neighbourhood. But after reading about what happened to Frenchie hen and other peoples girls who have gone missing, I'm not taking any chances.

Ain't Nobody Here
That's terrible . How horrible to have to be on guard in your own home . Maybe the police will take more notice now it's happening to more of you?
Janty
It's a shame you don't know someone with a big dog. A dirty great trap would sort them out. It's a shame you can't set traps! Hubby says I'm getting worse as I get older.
The Dogmother
We had a rash of that here, but the police were very helpful (pays to have friends...) and they caught them. Most of the neighbours now have shed alarms and padlocks. I hope that you get it sorted Mostin.
mostin
That's terrible . How horrible to have to be on guard in your own home . Maybe the police will take more notice now it's happening to more of you? You must be physic ANH as the police have just been round. Apparently there were 9 garden attacks just last night on our road and the 2 roads next to us. That's more crime than in the last decade round here I'm sure . It's certainly kicked them up the bum anyway so lets hope they take some action. Finger print people should be coming tomorrow. Won't be sleeping much tonight though. Whole street is on the watch . OH is still outside in the dark tweaking the settings on the new security lights. I'm just going out to get my girls now, they should all be asleep by now I think. mostin
They are all happily esconced in the kitchen now . You should have seen Oscar the cats face as he walked in half through me putting them all in the box, it was somthing like this , and then he shot out of the back door . Have moved cats food out of kitchen and closed kitchen doors so we all have our own separate areas for the night now. Fingers crossed. No more thefts, and all the animals stay safe. Blackrocksrock
Is it possible to put out stuff they could fall over and make a noise on - like tins or stuff like that or buckets with water in. You would then hear them as well as having the security lights.
Barkisland
CCTV sounds like a good idea, and you could convert it to a chicken cam when things setle down Hope they catch them, I'm with Janty, dirty great man traps would be great, but then I am a grumpy old woman! laurmurf
Poor mostin and poor chooks! so much disruption arising from the action of those beasts! I do hope your darling OH isn't away over the next few days! lots of love from all us!
The Dogmother
We've caught many a prowler around here - these are Victorian terraced houses and the gardens back onto each other. Knowing all the local police helps too Be careful with CCTV though as it mustn't point at any public areas, just your own property. you can now get an infrared set-up that you can access via the inetrnet to see what's going on when you're out. Guest
don't forget to collect the sloppy poos and leave them where they will either tread in them or put their hands on them! I hope the police catch these idiots! You shouldn't have to be on first names terms with them for them to do something for you. Get together with your neighbours and make a fuss if they don't do anything. Keep safe xxxx
Yorkshire Pudding
What a nightmare. How about buckets full of chicken poo all over the place? Man-traps full of chicken poo? Glad you have your girls safe inside and fingers crossed for a peaceful night. You shouldn't have to make you house into Fort Knox but sadly some people have no respect for privacy or property. Keep safe xxxx What a nightmare. How about buckets full of chicken poo all over the place? Man-traps full of chicken poo? Fantastic ideas, the images have cheered me up alot. Oh remembered that we do know someone very high up in the Leeds police, never would bother him normaly but we put in a call. He has spent the afternoon prodding buttock about all this apparantly. It has now been upped to 11 reports last night, they've never known anything like it in our area, and I think people must be in trouble for not acting quickly on the 1st incidents earlier in the week. We've now had a second visit by the police this evening, and socco tried to call, but we'd had to go out (MIL's 60th birthday) so they are coming back in the morning. Don't worry Laurie, Oh isn't away again for quite a while, and all the men in our cul de sac have swapped mobile numbers with each other so if any of them hears anything they will call each other, then they can all go out and see what's going on. Meanwhile my girls are having a nice time in their box , I woke them up when I had to put the kitchen light on to do the dishwasher, but they seemed very happy to watch my unusual behaviour . The policeman was very intrigued to see them in the kitchen as well .
mostin
Just been reading all your lovely supportive comments out to my OH. he says he's put some stuff out to make a noise, thanks susan Is it possible to put out stuff they could fall over and make a noise on - like tins or stuff like that or buckets with water in. You would then hear them as well as having the security lights. He also says CCTV is definately the next step, and then I'll have my chicken cam . HENthusiastic
HIya Mostin, Sorry Ive not caught up with this thread before now.... (went straight to visit Ks grandad in the hospital from work). How horrible for you. Incredible that they would keep coming back. So pleased the police are finally taking it seriously. The idea of leaving noisy stuff around for them to trip over sounds really good. Sorry you are having such a stressy time with it. I hope the police do catch them. Tell those men to be careful, you know how things go these days..... intruder breaks in..... men give him a good thump...... men end up getting done for assult and sued by the intruder! You dont want that happening. Hope your girls sleep well, even if it sounds like you wont! Good news that your stuff got left behind. Thinking of you. Ain't Nobody Here
That sounds more positive . Hopefully once the lowlives discover something's being done (by police and residents) they'll move on. Sadly, they'll probably go on to ruin some other street's peace . Ain't Nobody Here
I think you should go the whole hog and just let them snuggle up in your bed . At least you'd know they were really safe .
