As you all know I am thrilled to be recieving my cube in one month/four days. I've been following Clash City Rockers thread "Leaking Cube" with much interest and I'm starting to get nervous. Our weathers here in New England (as you all know) are a bit more harsh than in the UK. Already this season we have had over 3 feet of snow.

Before I plunk down $1000.00US I need to be assured I won't have the same issues going on as it won't be as "easy" to get replacement parts here in the US. What would you do?

From what I can work out the leakage problems mostly happened with the first cubes, those of us who got them a little later have not seemed to experience problems - even those of us in the West of Scotland where our Cube has been well tested by the rain, wind, sleet, snow, hail (are you getting the picture!) and occasional sunshine!!!!

I would go with the cube personally, I think the majority of cube owners are happy and leak / draught free. I had my reservations myself (mine arrives tomorrow just in case you didn't hear me scream it from the rooftops  )

Every product gets some problems, you would be very unlucky to be one of those in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide though.

I've got one of each, Angels4, and I prefer the cube: I've not had a problem with leaking and mine was new in July.

Think about the cube being up a good bit higher than the eglu, which means that it will sit above the snow line for the most part and the run - if protected - will block out snow as well.

it's much easier to clean and I find that because the nest box is bigger I can have several hens laying at once, rather than a long queue for the single one.

IMHO i think you'll be delighted with the cube - not long to go now!

The cube is the same whether it was bought when newly-launched or yesterday.

They have black foam-like gutters on the back panels to channel away the water. These weren't on the earlier cubes, but were sent out as a retro fix kit, which come ready installed on the newer cubes, but are exactly the same.

:) The Cube is my favourite and my 9 hens agree. Through choice they all sleep/lay there instead of the 2 old Eglus now.

Although mine (One of the first ones) leaked initially, I tilted it differently and it's been fine since. I now know that I would stick with a Cube warts & all & just bodge something if necessary.

Of course, bodging or covering an expensive item that should be perfect is an issue. But I'd still choose the Cube given the choice. Many other customers have had no problems at all, so I hope some of them post too.

The Cube is a brilliant design & I love them!

Thanks everybody..........I will continue on my present path and go with the cube...... :D I guess as the time looms closer, I'm starting to get a bit nervous with the initial cost of the cube and to read some of the problems which others have had mad me question my chioce.

Not had any problems with mine but its still new.

I think some of the leaking problems may have been to do with having the eggport or back into the prevailing wind and as Sheila said checking the tilt will make a difference to the way the water drains in the channels.

Not long now.

:D

I got the call from Clare at OmletHQ and my cube is in New York, from there it will be shipped to Iowa, Clare is set to arrive shortly to sort out the shipping. It seems just yesterday I placed my order and now the time is approaching fast. Pedrick should be in my possesion by or about 27Feb09. With over 3 feet of snow, I will have to wait until the thaw to get it set up for my new girlies which I hope to recieve in April.
