What are you sowing now?

Recommended Posts

More sowing tonight! (and some weeding)

I sowed Night Scented Stock in a pot by the back door and something called "Butterfly Mix". It was a pocket sold for charity. So what ever comes up will be a surprise!

I love butterflies. I already have a couple of buddleia and lots of nettles :lol::lol:

On a sunny day I usually see quite a few butterflies. Which definitely means I will have to protect my brassicas when I finally plant them out!

The only thing I have managed to sow over the last couple of weeks are pots of salad mix, as I have totally run out of room in the raised beds

I am desperate to get the onions out now,to fee up all that lovely room for more carrots & spring onions!

Aha, that would explain why I seem to have 2 or 3 seedlings in groups  . I was sure I'd planted them very carefully spaced out :lol: .

beetroot are quite happy to grow in close proximity though... so if you want to harvest some as small golf ball ones then you can do this.. if you are after larger specimens then thin out

Didn't sow anything today,but I have 5 little finger sized courgettes :P:P:P

I AM going to pick them small this year & try ro keep on top of the annula courgette glut :lol:

I am very  I want a courgette glut. *stamps foot!*

When did you sow the courgette seed? Are your plants indoors or out?

I was watering my 5 courgette plants tonight. 4 look very healthy, one is a bit straggly. They are all a long way from producing anything yet though!

I didn't sow anything today. I did a bit of weeding and watering.

My mizuna, pakchoi, lettuce and rocket are all germinating.

They have only been in a week!

I've sown my runner beans today - quite pleased with myself as they were beans saved from last years harvest! It will be interesting to see if they grow as well as the parent plants! :D

Lauren and Jake sowed bean seeds that they collected from last years plants and they are romping away up the canes :D

I still have one empty bed - empty now that I've weeded it  - I'm just off outside before it gets too hot to sow more carrots, beetroot and salad leaves. The polygreenhouse is packed full and doing well - I managed to rescue most of the tomato plants.

I sowed mine a while back & they have been out for about 3 weeks now :D

They will come on suddenly in this great weather,so long as they are well watered.

Everything is shooting up fast - the peas took about 3 days to germinate, which was totally unexpected. The dwarf beans took a week. Broad beans look ready to munch. I notice that the cabbage whites have laid eggs on the caulis that are hardening off, but not in the veggie bed (yet) and there are lots of aphids settling on the beans (but so far the broad beans are free of them). I did see a harlequin ladybird on the peas - part of me wanted to destroy it, but I'm afraid I was rather selfish and wanted it to eat the greenfly in my garden first so I let it be.

Lots of Painted Lady and Tortoishell butterflies around (with the white ones) and they sun themselves on the paths in the veggie beds. Oh, and the last of the hanging baskets is up with flowers and rainbow chard.

We will be digging up all of our new potatoes soon to make way for the leeks - I know what you mean Cinammon - NO ROOM!

But I have emptied out an old pot ready for dwarf beans and the last of the peas will be put into one of the beds where I have saved some space. Toms are setting all over the place now.

I'm growing:

carrotts (in pots)

leeks (in pots)

peas (in pots)

tomatoes (pots and ground)

butternut squash

little gem lettuce

sweet peppers

strawberries (in hanging baskets)

salad leaves

I'm a complete novice at growing vegetables but so far, so good :)

I've sowed some more peas. Kelvedon Wonder.

The last lot of peas I sowed were Mangetout but (very) old seed, and never came up.

This is fresh seed donated to me by a friend.

I'm taking no chances this time. I've sowed indoors, in modules and popped them in a heated propagator for a boost.

Best to cover all bases redhotchick :roll: After bitter experience with mice and birds, I know why you are

My peas are coming up now. The holly and wire cloche have done the trick :D:D

Sowed more beetroot and parsnips as the seedlings disappeared again

I've sown some peas a la Hugh to replace the purple sprouts that died.

I ordered some sweet potato slips from Thompson and Morgan and a pack arrived today.

Tearing them open with glee I found :( to my dismay, some seed spuds with an apologetic letter covering the substitution

I was so looking forward to giving these a go (my organic sweet potato sat forlornly on the window sill for two months refusing to chit before it ended up in a casserole)

Well I've sown these in the fridge and will resurrect them in August to plant in a bucket for Christmas new spuds.
