Lesley
My son and girlfriend are due to fly from Luton on Friday morning - her mother is very poorly - we are supposed to take them to Coventry coach station for 3am to get the coach to Luton. The airport site says it still has delays.......just wondering if Luton was in line for more snow like the Midlands. The Midlands news was talking of about 2" - 4" so maybe it will all be OK. Snowy
Just seen the forecast - very heavy snow for the whole of the leicetsershire/northants/bucks areas
chelsea
I would get your son or girlfriend to ring their airline later tomorrow Lesley. They can give you an idea of any delays during the day tomorrow which may have a knock on affect to the following day. Our airline cancelled so many flights on Monday due to the weather/airport closures and there was a big backlog the following day & futher delays and cancellations. Keep checking the website for Luton airport & the airline they are travelling with aswell for updates before setting off. Hope they get away ok. Sheilaz
..whereas I was expecting rain & sleet here....but, the Coventry to Luton coach part sounds like snow, more than the airport...
The Dogmother
I hope that they get off OK Lesley - I always check Teletext for any travel news; it's pretty accurate.
redhotchick
..whereas I was expecting rain & sleet here....but, the Coventry to Luton coach part sounds like snow, more than the airport... I agree. Can they travel to Luton earlier?
Lesley
Thanks all - we'll just have to keep checking. They can't really go any earlier as the coach is already paid for and there are no refunds. Whizz air (sp?) only have these flights out on Fridays so fingers crossed They will phone to check with both the coach company and the airline as late as possible tomorrow. Lesley
Why did the forecasts have to be right today! Could be worse - we could have been taking them to Coventry at 3am this morning Luton airport does have snow - which they are clearing and all the phone nos. are on the site. Fingers still crossed! Lesley
As long as we can get them to Luton then they'll have to sit it out - if there are enough seats........not enough at Luton apparently! If the coach isn't going we may have to drive.....hope you're up for visitors at 4am Sheila?

If the coach isn't going we may have to drive.....hope you're up for visitors at 4am Sheila? I keep wondering if I can suggest anything helpful. I'm very happy to put the kettle on at 4am! Seriously, keep my 'phone numbers on you if you do set off, we're only about 10 miles away. Mobile is on 24/7! It's raining now. If the snow could just stay for Esther to go sledging, then disappear in the rain, you might be OK this end! Fingers crossed. ....just heard, more snow due overnight though... doesn't look hopeful. Guest
I'm in Dunstable, next door to Luton and we've had a lot of snow. Even the snow ploughs are getting stuck! Take care. Louise X
MrandMrsG
We're based in a village near Kettering and I have never seen so much snow - infact the hens a so un-impressed they've taken themselves back to bed! I guess you could say that they're having a duvet day! I've just taken the dogs out and our little westie really struggled, he got loads of snowballs attached to the fur on his legs and underbelly and I ended up carrying him home! However our flatcoat retriever Blue has had a ball, I can't keep him out of the snow!
Redwing
We are not far from you Rosie and its the same here I work in Luton and could not even get out of my drive much less down the M1 Lesley - only 7 of my 34 staff made it in to Luton today so its very bad down there
Sheilaz
runways closed...sorry for DIL Lesley. You didn't set off did you?
lisa33
I live in Hitchin & have just got to work in Hatfield after driving through really heavy snow. Horrible!!!
Lesley
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh! We got uo at 2am and packed the car..........hot drinks, biscuits, folding shovel, sleeping bags and one dog, left here in a heavy snowstorm, collected son and his gf at 2.30am and drove to Coventry Coach Station. The snow eased on the way to Coventry, waited with them until the coach arrived, waved goodbye and came home to bed at 4.30 . I was awake at 6.30 - phoned to make sure they'd made it to Luton, they had. no problems with snow .........but Wizzair have cancelled all their flights They are re-scheduled for Sunday! I have been chatting to him while he stood in the National Express queue to change their return tickets back to Coventry. There is/was a coach back at 7.25, they can't get on it unless the ticket has been changed. They can't buy another ticket using their laptop because you have to print the ticket out, the desk should have opened at 7am.......it hasn't. It's snowing heavily at Luton now......and it's still snowing here. I know there are worse things that could happen, they are young and haven't got any little children with them etc....... but his g/f's mother is so seriously ill and she's desperate to get back, I could (just seen your posts Sheila and Lisa)
Cooks
oh no it's horrible when this happens and someone really needs to be somewhere I hope they managed to change their ticket and are safetly returning home.
Lesley
No such luck I'm afraid - they are now stuck. The road to the airport is closed, no transport at all, and all flights have been cancelled. The annoying thing is they could probably have left on the 7.25 Coventry coach as the roads were still open. They would probably have had a nightmare journey though as we have a whiteout here. Cooks
oh bless their hearts, I hate to think of people 'stuck' like this, they cant fly and they cant get home, that's horrible.
redhotchick
Oh No! Can Whizzair not fly them out of somewhere else before Sunday? Like Manchester or maybe Liverpool, I'm sure the runways are open here. No snow at the moment.
Lesley
They're flying to Cluj - so it's a bit obscure and only a few flights. They could fly to Budapest and make their way from there but then they have to pay. Sunday to Cluj from Luton is looking the best at the moment, as long as Luton clear the backlog that will be caused today I'm just trying to book a hotel room for the day/night just in case. There's not anything directly on airport - so they will have to walk - at least 1.8miles to the nearest. People are arriving on foot looking like snowmen!
