Couperwife Posted February 22, 2009 Share Posted February 22, 2009 hmmm your dad shouldnt be recieving poor treatment. why dont you get a small notebook, and write down everything that is going on, and leave it in an obvious place when they come and see him - or you go to get a cup of tea. it may make them think again. or complain loudly at the nurses station. if you make a fuss, they will probably sort it out. on the other side of this, the nurses are possibly understaffed and struggling to cope (which doesnt help your dad ) either way ((((hugs)))) im glad dad is making improvements cathy x Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest Posted February 22, 2009 Share Posted February 22, 2009 Jue, my dad didn't fare much better than yours mum would never let me say anything though as she was scared that if we complained, they wouldn't look after him properly (not that they were anyway ) I lost count of the times my dad's colostomy bag burst/leaked because "Ooops, word censored!"ody could be bothered to empty it. It's heart breaking enough having a seriously ill parent without having to worry about whether they are being cared for properly. I hate to say this, but when my mum was so ill, at 89, I practically moved into the hospital, and fed, changed, washed, administerd meds etc, as the staff were on the whole useless and arrogant with it. Mum was in no way able to fend for herself, so I did it. I had endless rows with them, but got the medication and care she needed in the end, but it was pretty awful. I even wrote statements of compl;ant and read them to the consultant whilst recording the whole thing on my mobile, to protect everyone's rights. That worked. I did tell them i was recording. I quite agree. It makes my blood boil to think patients are being treated like this How upsetting for you and it adds so much to the extra worry. I would definitely complain and as Freddie says - log everything if you can. Joojoo Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share Posted February 24, 2009 Yeah things have certainly been very far from right with his overall treatment They've found that he's got a blood clot in his left leg so he's now on Warfarin. That's really upset the apple cart with him. He's not very happy at all. I don't know, it just seems to be one thing after another for him at the mo BUT he is still continuing to improve with the Diverticulitis which considering the prognosis last week I really didn't think would ever happen so that is fantastic news. xx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I too have many complaints re my father's treatment in hospital about 5 years ago and additionally most of last year. Again he is so reluctant to complain. I really feel that his generation are taken advantage of as they hold the medical profession in such high esteem. Generally when I have complained on his behalf or attended clinics with him he seems to get a better level of attention . Especially when you take notes(which I do). Tha sad thing is when my OS was very ill the NHS was truly fantastic ( once I got past my locum gp who semed to think I was mad - ironically I was proved very right in my self-diagnosis). The hospital staff were amazing and simply couldn't do enough. I do feel that it seems to be age related together with a determined approach to clear questioning and probing. I have never been very good at simply accepting statements, the scientist or whatever in me always wants a reasoned explanation. Dad is coming home tomorrow :dance: I honestly never thought he would do, after the prognosis 11 days ago, but he has kept fighting and fighting. I'm just over the moon. The old brain can't quite take it all in yet Social Services are putting together a care package for him, which will involve someone popping in a couple of times a day and just as importantly he has agreed to have a pendant alarm, which he has always refused up til now.
