HENthusiastic
Hi guys. As some of you may know, I am now the proud owner of a . Due to arrive in my back garden Monday week My original plan was to get a speckled sussex and a cream legbar. But now I've got such lovely secure introduction accomodation I'm thinking, why not make better use of it and get some younger hens. So this is my dilemna should I be patient and get the breeds I originally wanted to get, and get them at POL (maybe a few weeks younger.) OR do I get two cream legbars (which are autosexing) and get them from lil cutesy youngsters. Less time to wait, better use of the new and the wonderfulness of getting younguns and watching them grow. I like the idea of having different breeds. But I also like the idea of more and I do love the cream legbars and their little quiffs.
Electricbarbarella
if it was me I would get cutesy young un's. but then again I am brrody so I would
mostin
I would get more rather than less coloured egg layers, I am already regretting not getting more . My corton blues are fab, but one of them is ofiicially my god-daughters, so her eggs go to that house too. My columbine has started laying but her eggs have only the faintest of blue tinges to them , not bright blue and green like the other two girls. I wish I had more of the coloured eggs myself to keep . But you shouldn't listen to me, I will be accused of leading you astray again
Madbird
Legbars all the way!! My speckled sussex started laying this week and although she is a beautiful bird her eggs are a bit disappointing! (don't let her hear I said that!) brambles
Hi there, *jumping up and down* I've just ordered a cube!!! So I can fit in more girls - I may hire out my eglu. Are the cream legbars a 'steady' type of girl or are they rather noisy - I've heard varying opinions! (kenilworth girl now in Chester, waving to Leamingtonian)
SLK69
get the baby cream legbars - how cute would they be - I want some tooooooooo.
Egluntyne
I'd say more not less. I really enjoyed rearing my Fenton Blues from 8 week chicks.....and the folk I supply with eggs are clamouring for the coloured eggs. I am lusting after a white egg layer or two now. sunshinesupernova
I've booked two pol and get them next week - very local and were shocked they are only £10 ea ! I'd already booked two babies the day before elsewhere - they arent even going in the incubator yet for 3 weeks...... - so I may cancel those (£12 ea at 6 weeks)

laurmurf
You know that I'm going to say "baby cream legbars all the way", don't you? I miss Anya so much - because we had her from 14 weeks old she was so tame and the loveliest, friendliest and silliest hen we've had. She laid one tiny little egg for us a few weeks before we lost her and it was pearlised white with a hint of blue - gorgeous! You'll so enjoy watching them grow up into grown up gorgeous girls with bouffant hair do's!
HENthusiastic
ok, ok, we know you're excited but there's no need to post 4 times ooops dont know what happened there! I'll see if I can delete 3 of them! *Bows head in mark of respect to the beautiful Anya who is the only cream legbar Ive even met and the reason I fell in love with them and wanted a girl of my own to love* Her egg sounds beautiful

She just loved being with people. It wasn't fair she went so young, I hope she's getting lots of fuss in the big chicken run in the sky. HENthusiastic
UPDATE: Counting my chickens before they are laid!!! Well the good news: I have got two cream legbars on order The bad news: I missunderstood the lady I've ordered them from. I thought they were well on the way, but they actually haven't even been hatched yet! She said that her pure breeds have only just started laying and the first batch are often not very fertile, so I might have to wait for her second batch to hatch, then grow. However, thanks to the new eglu and the clever autosexing cream legbars, we are going to get them as littluns Now I just have to wait *drums fingers*
thewhitehouse
I haven't got proper cream legbars but I have got a Merrydale Crested (similar) and although we've only had her and her 'sister' for about 3 weeks I think, she is so tame. She also talks all the time too and when I go out she follows me around like a little dog! No eggs yet but I'm sure her ears are tinged blue so
TAJ
Wernlas told me there were laying well and in the incubator about a month ago, plus Gouldlife Poultry should already have some if you cannot wait - remember Wernlas do delivery, but obviously need a brooder and heat lamp if under 6-8 weeks. HENthusiastic
I don't want to get them that young, so I'm going to get them at about 8 weeks. Thanks for that info, I will look into that. Ooooh how exciting, I might get them a big sooner after all
