The Dogmother
One of the chaps at work is talking about buying a netbook and has been asking if anyone knows about them....... I thought, I know just the place to ask (I know that Mostin has one at least). All I know is that he wants one with Windows rather than Linux and a decent battery time. Any reports out there? bluekarin
My hubby has one of these. He says he bought it to test them for his work (he's in IT) I really like it. The battery seems to last for quite a while. Ours is an Asus Eee PC 900 and is Linux based which takes a little getting used to, but the kids and myself have managed so it can't be too hard. I don't like the mouse - but then I don't like them on any laptop I have ever used - so we use a wireless mouse. The screen is clear and it is really small and light so its great for its portability. Also, as its solid state memory (no moving discs like on a harddrive) it doesn't matter too much if you bash it
The Dogmother
He's just added that he 'quite fancies' the ... now what was it... 'Dell Inspiron'. Just can't understand how I can find out about anything in the world from a chicken forum! Philistine!
Patricia W
We bought one a couple of weeks ago so we could see our two little grandaughters ( 4 and 2) in Australia. It's a Laser ( OH has taken it to work so can't find the exact model number) but it cost £179 from Curry's. PC World had it as well, but I hate their customer service so walked out and went over the road to Curry's. It's got a built in webcam and we put Skype on it. Now they call us from their netbook ( a Laser also) when they are having breakfast and chatter about what they are doing that day, and even " take" us into the Wendy House ( called a Cubby House over there) so we can have a tea party with them! It's magic. It probably does a lot more things as well........ Tricia ( besotted nana)
Cinnamon
PC World had it as well, but I hate their customer service so walked out and went over the road to Curry's. Er, did you know that they are the same company?
Patricia W
No - but the level of service is completely different so I guess they have different management teams. In PC World I had give my name to someone walking around with a clipboard, who then had to give my name to an " advisor". The guy with the clipboard refused to answer any questions. I then had to wait 20 mins to see the advisor who told me they were out of stock ! Why couldn't the first person tell me that? Or direct me to Curry's which had the item?? Across the road, someone came to help me straight away, and I was out in less then 10 mins. Tricia

Guest
I have an Asus Eeepc and its lovleee. Very fast and easy to use - like others though I need a mouse. Hey these "toy" are what we spent last years computers for schools vouchers on - bought enough for one each for the IT teachers . V handy when I want to get on the forum in bed..... Also good for taking to the McCafe when its a rainy day and I take James to McPlay.....(hey it's the CHEAPEST play place ever - wherever you go you end up buying food, drink, ice cream - at the big M at least the play is free and the coffee is great!) Patricia W
Ahem... embarrassed cough. The netbook I bought is an ACER netbook - not a Laser - that's a boat my OH says. Whatever! It's good, so get one, Claret, whatever it's called. Tricia
