Poor you Emma. Nice to be home, but better if you feel well enough to enjoy it.

 

I weaned all my babies at 13 weeks! I don't think they could have made it even to 16 weeks. They were big babies (smallest 8lb 4, largest 9lb 10) and needed the spoonful of porridge at each meal. Otherwise they started waking up in the night because they were hungry. I think 13 weeks was recommended back in 1989, but later by the time DS arrived in 1998. I think that makes me old!

They recommended 16 weeks when I had Rosie (another big baby) in 1998 and she was hungry as heck by that time!

That's what I thought Clare. Being my 4th baby, I just ignored it and followed the needs of my baby. He's fine!

My oldest was started on solids at 10 weeks! Again, a big baby and very hungry - he hasn't changed The next two were weaned by sucking mashed potato off my finger as soon as they were able to show an interest in what everyone else was eating

I've tried to post on here a couple of times but my stupid laptop keeps wiping my message

I returned to work about 8 or 9 weeks ago and although hard to begin with things are so much better now. Bogwoppit is now enjoying nursery and no longer cries when we leave him and I feel better about leaving him knowing that he is happy there and likes his carers.

 

I have to work otherwise we can't pay the mortgage. I am the main earner and although we could survive (possibly) on my full time wage, OH was made redundant last year and is just getting into his new job so not keen, understandably, to give it up. Plus, not a great time to be giving up work at the moment... so I'm part-time, 3 days a week.

 

Your little girl will settle into a new routine - probably quicker than you do - and you have to do what you have to do. It is tough to start with but in my experience it really does get easier.

Thanks for all your get well wishes they are really appreciated.

 

Im up and dressed today which is better than yesterday as i didnt make it out of bed at all. The doctor came and said i was really dehydrated, but every time i drink, i puke - great! He said i need to eat a little otherwise i'll feel faint & I cant take anything as im still feeding Isabelle so he said i just need to 'ride it out'. Im now wondering how long this thing will last!

 

Mum has taken Isabelle to baby yoga so i think im going to snooze on the sofa this afternoon.

 

As for the weaning - thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Isabelle is still putting on weight so we will wait until the Easter holidays before starting as, at just over 6 months, its supposed to reduce the risk of further allergies. She is interested in food and tries to grab at ours so im sure she will take to her purees really well.

It is really horrible being ill when you have little ones to look after, take any help you can give and get plenty of rest. Try having a spoonful of water every 10-15 minutes instead of a big drink, this will help keep you hydrated and won't overload your poorly tum.

 

You will dehydrate a lot faster when you are breast feeding so take care.
