HENthusiastic
HI. Our Ex-batt May has been with us nearly a year now. She has had a moult and is now looking beautiful! . She is happy and healthy and seems to thoroughly enjoy life. The only small problem seems to be that she is getting a little portly! Should I just accept the fact that shes a little foodie and let her get on with it? Or try to do something about it I have no idea what! I just couldn't section her away from the others (and her beloved food!) She is often to be seen in the garden with her head in the pellets while the others are ranging around, digging holes and playing! She has always been a bit on the chunky side! Edited to say: eak! I've accidentally put this in nesting box. Please could somebody move it for me. Thanks

Barkisland
I'd leave her to enjoy her retirement, and if that means middle age spread, then so what? She deserves to be happy
Janty
My Mistletoe is exactly the same. She is no longer using up resources from the food for egg laying and so she is getting a bit portly. She's happy, bless her, so I shall let her enjoy herself. I find it nigh on impossible to stick to a diet so I can't expect her to.
One_Box
I vote for May to enjoy her pellets and her retirement - you know it makes sense

HENthusiastic
You as well ANH, eat as your heart desires. As long as we are happy, who cares!
Plum
Lucky ANH and on a sunday in Lent too. Agree with you all she deserves her food. You'll have to put her in an exercise wheel inbetween times.
HENthusiastic
I don't think she'll think much of that idea!! She is a good sturdy bird and has a fine pair of thighs on her. Out of all of them, she does the chicken "1,2, back" dance with the greatest of gusto, so she should be getting a good work out.
The Dogmother
Leave her to it Hon, so long as it's pellets she's eating and not treats. I switch my girls from corn as a treat to Indigo Wheat in the summer; it's less fattening and they don't need the extra calories to keep warm. You may need to mix it in with corn at first to get them used to it.
mostin
She looked perfectly fine to me today when I dropped your eglu off. Although she did tell me that you and K hadn't given them any treats for ages , so I just had to give them all some corn before I left didn't I .
