4 day old silkie chick can't walk as has curled feet. ideas?

Recommended Posts

hello,

i hatched out a bantam silkie on tuesday. at 4 days old she/he still cant stand. his feet seem to be curled under + bent. it is suporting its self on the sides of its ankles. what should i do? other chicks i have hatched out have always seemed to be up and away by at least day 2.

my other half thinks it must be deformed and we should put it down.

is this a problem anyone else has come across before? should i dispatch it sooner rather than later or is the problem likely to sort itself out?

Hi

I do know that other people with this problem have made little 'snow' shoes for their chick cut out from card eg from a cereal packet and taped it on with micropore type tape. This holds the toes out straight. After a few days they should stay like this on their own.

I think it has to be done as young as poss.

I haven't done it myself but it could be worth a try?

Good luck if you choose to give it a go.

just to let you know that i found the dear little thing had passed away in the night when i came down for breakfast this morning.

it got the hang of the shoes last night and they did seem to be helping. i just don't think it was ment to be.

thank you for all our help guys.
