chixandthecity
Hi there Just wondered if anyone out there has a White Star. We got one on Saturday and she is terrorising her fellow hen, a Maran hybrid. I've read that White Stars can be like this, but do they settle or is an Eglu not the best place for her? The farmer who supplied us is happy to swap her if she doesn't settle, but we don't want to give up on her to easily. Thanks Chix
alih
If they are the same age it should settle down once thepecking order is sorted. White stars are not unusually aggressive so it will probably just be that.

Margalot
Hopefully it will settle for you, we have a Sussex star and she is definately the boss, It took a while for the pecking order to settle down, but we now have harmony! I must admit it is awful to watch, Our Black Rock was the target for Bon Bon from the outset and she would grab her neck , wattle and really go for her bottom! We now have bumper bits fitted on Bon bon and Tinker (she's still top bird though!!) they seem really brutal, but it is just chicken behaviour I'm afraid! Keep an eye on it Michelle
madchickenlady
I briefly had a white star, and returned her because she was aggressive and incredibly flighty. The breeder then told me that white stars aren't really suited for a garden flock, and are more suited to large areas and free ranging Thanks for telling me before! She was absolutely beautiful, and I'd have loved the white eggs, but it wasn't for us in the end
The Dogmother
They are inclined to be a tad more flighty and daft, but no more agressive than other hens. People always ask me what's the most docile breed of hen, and it's really hard to answer because they're all different within each breed. Like people really. ali-s
Lily my Fenning White is the same breed as a Whitestar. She can be flighty and doesn't like to be handled but will happily follow me around the garden. She lives with a Bantie and they get on fine together no sign of agression on Lily's part at all. The Dogmother
Jude has a whitestar who lives at the yard, she's always trying to get in the cars!
WitchHazel
I have a White Star, and she's wonderful. Beofre she started laying, she was a bit loopy, used to run around the garden like she had a rocket up her bottom (like RoadRunner, in fact). As soon as she started laying she became a daft little thing, who loves to be picked up and stroked (because she associates it with treats), always crouches when I go near her, and is an absolute love. The Ives Clan
We have a White Star. We thought it was mad until it started to lay, which has really calmed her down. She will now feed out of your hand & lets your pick her up, which she really seems to enjoy. Hope yours calms down soon.
