Peacocks

because the girls often want to lay at the same time I've made a nesting box divider to split it into 2...

they seem much happier now, the Lemon Brahma has decided to lay just in the right side whilst the others, except the Sussex, alternate

[fluffyknickers]

Wow that's great - you are obviously very handy.

I didnt realise they may not like laying together as often my three go in at two at a time and even three at a time all laying in the same spot - perhaps they just have a one in one out rota while the other waits on the bars.

[Ain't Nobody Here]

That looks very snazzy . I particularly like the slightly lower middle partition in case they want to have a gossip over the "wall" .

[tidygirlsuk]

Thats cool !

[hillfamily]

That's brilliant.........I want one Are you taking orders

It's a shame that Omlet can't make something similar

my girls won't lay together in the cube nestbox.......if the nestbox is being used, they just stand on the ladder making a racket until it's their turn

[Plum]

Brilliant, it may be a double nest box but "Ooops, word censored!"ody told the chickens. That is just the job.

[Cooks]

brilliant!!!

[Poached]

GENIUS!!

*scuttles of to persude dad to make one *

[Chook n Boo Mum]

I opened the egg port on the yesterday, only to find the nestbox FULL of grey feathers. On closer inspection I realised 2 of the Orpies were facing into the inner left and right corners and Bluebell was perched between/on top of the pair of them, facing the egg port door By the time I got back with the camera Bluebell had got out!

[Steve.]

Shame on you - why isn't it painted red?

Very snazzy!

A plasticote spray may be a good idea - as it may help cleaning and keeping Redmite out?

[MaggieMcHen]

OMLET please take note of this idea - it should be the next mod for Cube owners. I suggested something two years ago but received no reply . As you say no one told the hens it was a double nesting box

[westleigh]

oh how clever bet your chuffed to bits with your brill idea

[toastedblue]

UPDATE: finally got a picture of 2 of them nesting and nattering... typical females

[hillfamily]

I've sent a link to this thread to James and Hanns at Omlet, together with a plea for something like to be made and made as a retro fit aswell........only time will tell.....but I'll keep everything crossed

I agree! my lot will only lay one at a time and like to lay in private - otherwise there is a right old performance!

Excellent idea Toasted Blue - I am going to show OH when he gets home.

[Egluntyne]

Brilliant idea. Most of mine don't mind bunking up together but one of the Fenton blues makes the most appalling row if she can't have vacant possession.

Why not forward the idea to Omlet? Copyright it though.

[Guest]

I like that simple ideas are always the best..i want one of those toooooo

[chelsea]

OH thinks the idea is great and gives it a big thumbs up!

I have given him the Easter weekend to make mine.

lol. he likes the little "jobs" I give him. He said when I am at work and he's at home without any "to do list" he feels lost!

[Cooks]

I have a to do list here, I can always email it over if he's stuck..lolol

mind you actually thinking about my to do list he needs to be living here..lolol

glad to hear your keeping him busy though lol

[toastedblue]

here's what you'll need...

1 hand saw

1 jig saw with blade

1 screwdriver

approx 8 x 1" screws

3 x 1.5" screws

1 sheet of 4' x 2' x 1/2" plywood

use the original port divider as a template

simple as that, 30 minutes work

happy DIYing

[Karen & co.]

What a fab idea mine are usually OK with bunking up, but Betty growls at anyone who tries to get in to the nest box when she is in there

[Janty]

It's my pekins that cause the most fuss. They will not share the nesting box with anybody.

just to let you all know, I have had a reply form James at Omlet who says .........

Hi Pam,

Thanks for your email. Thanks also for sending the forum thread about cube nest modification. I think that this is a great idea and would be of really benefit. We are always keen to improve the product and the design team are looking at it

Yours,

James

so I'm keeping everything crossed that the boys can come up with something :D
