Nature Stack

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right board - I think this crosses between here and Green Thinking.

In the November 2007 edition of Gardeners World magazine there was an article on building a nature stack. I wanted to do it and started collecting the materials - got some pallets, bought some cheap ridge tiles on Ebay. I never got round to actually building the thing though. I just piled the pallets and scattered the ridge tiles in the corner of the garden where I was going to put it.

Last week I went over to Hanningfield Reservoir to go geocaching. It's been a while since I went over there and I was happy to see a lovely nature stack had been built by the teenage volunteers. They had used the same article that I had seen (And kept safely) - there was a copy of it up on the shed next to the stack. Anyway it inspired me and I've spent my evenings this week building mine. I'm quite pleased with it and I'm hoping that it will attract a lot more in the way of bugs and insects to my garden. I already have a "meadow" and plans for a nature pond. But I'm very proud of my stack - if anyone wants more information I wrote all about it on my blog - including saying what all the different things attract.

I showed the pictures to Lauren and Jake and they started collecting a few things ready for next week.......they found some roof tiles left from when the house was built and put a large one by the back door.....

Carl found it later and was in a mad flap because he thought it had fallen from the roof!
