Girls shout everytime i go around

Recommended Posts

Hi There

Everytime I go around into the garden the girls start boking (shouting) is it cos they think Ive got something for them. My son has been going round and giving corn do you think its this. Ive told him not to go around all the time with stuff as they will expect it. Think im still a bit paranoid of the noise :( They are parked right outside my French doors and I can here them boking through the doubel glazing.

love to hear your thoughts

Oh yes, they are getting you trained...ours always rush over at top speed when they see us come out into the garden and stand as close to the electric netting as they dare bok bok bokking in the hope that we will bring food. Luckily as we live in the country and there are lots of other people with poultry including some cockerals and geese, we don't have to worry about the noise.

I think you will have to curb the treats so they don't always expect some whenever you come out of the house.

It's rough when you have a disobedient family.:D My husband is the same with grapes, sweetcorn etc.,

I just keep making sure I go down with nothing and just chat to them. Now they are over the top with him and nice and calm when it's me. I know which I prefer.

He won't change though, but at least you'll have some power over your son. :?:D

Same as Plum at our house!

OH is the corn man and the Orps waddle at speed when they see him come into the garden.

I spend a fair bit of time outside with the girls especially now the sun is out and made a point of not having treats about my person for a while as I was getting mobbed by two big greedy orps ! Now I can sit outside with my book and two orps sunbathing at my feet :D

Just need to train the OH now!

my husband is the one who gives them treats way more than I do (does the same with the dogs too! :shameonu: ) so now when he comes out all 3 coming running or flying literally across the field, with high screams of delight, to him in the hope he'll have something yummy. They are not daft at all.

I have decided I shall have to stick to a Dog Whisperer like regime with the girls once they arrive.

7:30 out of eglus with food and water already in situ - minimal association of me with food!

No treats for the first week and after that only when I get home from work and possibly only after they have been free-ranging as an enticement to get them back in the run.

Lots of me in the garden not interacting with them and not giving them treats etc.

let's just see how that goes.... you can all laugh yourselves silly in 3 months time when I'm buying them grapes.

I'm not in ireland - but often visit, my sister has a house in Dunshaughlin! She has a large garden and I love daydreaming as to how I would have it - hens, veggies and whatnot!

Not until Mid, possibly late May... have a bit of a logistical issue, getting 6 from 70 miles south of me, then delivering 2 of those 70 miles north of me to swap for 2 others, so I'll have a week or two with 6 hens two of whom I'll be saying goodbye to.

Almost finished building their run and my linkabord arrived today so I shall amuse myself setting up the veg patch in the mean-time.

Glad you are enjoying your girls.

Well you know if you are ever at a loose end some Saturday or Sunday (or Wednesday - I don't work Wednesdays) morning next time you visit Dunshauglin is about 15 miles from where I live in the suburbs!
