xChicken04x
Hi all, I have a problem. I would LOVE a green house, but my garden is mainly shade. I have a patch on the patio which gets sun all day and I could put a mini green house there, but I'm not sure if it will cater for all of my fruit/veg growing needs! I would really like a big green house, but as I said, my garden is mainly shade. There is an area at the bottom of the garden that gets bursts of sunlight during the day and all the way through the evening, could I put it there? Basically what I'm asking is, how well does a green house do in a mainly shaded garden? I think I know what the answer is going to be but I thought I would ask anyway. Thank you for any help. Redwing
Its the light and heat that helps with the growing and not direct sun so you may be ok unless the area is extremely dark Most greenhouse owners spend the summer shrouding their greenhouses in shade netting! Valkyrie
Seedlings need light otherwise they get a bit leggy. Perhaps you could start them off in a mini one on the patio, or on your window ledges. I agree with Redwing, come summer and you will need the shade.
chooklady
I'm in the same position, the only place I have left in my garden is in shade from trees and my shed. I am thinking of changing the shed so I can put a greenhouse where the shed is now but it still wouldn't have a massive amount of sun only late afternoon and odd times through the day. I might give it a go anyway and see what happens.
