Watch this guy - he's amazing!!

Recommended Posts

I love this sort of thing, I like the one where they jump and leap over things, think it has a French name but can't think of it right now. There's something almost balletic about it. If this sort of thing was in the olympics, I'd watch it! The link I clicked on, he had a helmet on. Surely there's an element of danger in any sport? That's what makes it exciting to watch, that and the fact that it takes skill and co-ordination. I'd rather watch something fresh like this than the gymnasts dancing their tired routines with balls and ribbons.

ETA- I was thinking of Parkour

Looked like a baseball cap to me. *shrugs* In any case....it wouldn't stop him impaling himself on the railings.

I agree that there is always a degree of risk in any sport.

These risks can be controlled up to a point by the wearing of the correct gear and being in a sensible environment. Boxers take more precautions that this individual appeared to be doing.

I'd like to see his risk assessment form. :D

I have to say I felt sick at some of the things he was doing.......as is usual with any sport like this we have the two flip sides of the coin - some love it, some hate it.

Whilst I spent most of the clip with my mouth open with the utter stupidity of some of those stunts, I was compelled to watch to the end.......... :anxious:

I saw a friend's 15 year old doing similar kinds of things (baby steps compared to these giant leaps it has to be said  !!) and gave him such a telling off as he scared me rigid - he went :roll: "Yes Sha!" and ignored me!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this. When he was on the railings at the beginning my blood went cold. How easily could he have been impaled on those spikes.

I did watch to the end and he obviously has a great skill there but I always watch these things with my 'wrap them up in cotton wool' mum's hat on. :?

That's interesting Poet, I didn't know it had a name. Luckily "performers of this activity usually have very keen spatial awareness" so that counts me out, I'm not even good at walking through doorways.

I don't like the impaling possibilities (and why should medics have to deal with accidents where risk outweighs the safety precautions) makes me feel sick in the 1st clip.

However, I do admire the skill, determination & control in some of the later manoeuvres, each to their own I suppose, but....don't try this at home!

edit; I've just watched again & don't endorse the illegal post removing in the 1st clip either! I really like the rest but would skip watching the 1st one. It wasn't his head I was worried about on those railings.

Enjoyed seeing a bit of Edinburgh too ANH. :)

..... Only trouble is we pay for the emergency services who may be called out to him - .

we also pay for those people who get injured playing football, skateboarding, mountain climbing, hill running etc etc.

wonder what the stats are for the most common sports accidents presented to A&E...

I just watched the video with awe :? . I thought his skill and determination were laudable.

We have to pay for hospitals to treat all sorts of injuries/illnesses - a lot of which are self-inflicted (smoking, drinking, over-eating, fighting, drug misuse, careless driving), as well as unintentional injuries through sport. This bloke obviously spent many hours perfecting those stunts (presumably with no injuries serious enough to end his "career") so I say good on him  .

And he was clearly wearing a helmet through the whole clip :) .

Risk assessment, schmisk assessment :wink: .

I agree with you ANH. Life is for taking risks, what a boring place it would be if "Ooops, word censored!"ody ever did.

As for moving the pole, I'm sure he put it back ;) He doesn't strike me as a wilful vandal

Without rule breaking then we wouldn't have some of our most talented artists for example. Graffiti is illegal but I think Banksy is amazing.

Anyway, I think he's very talented and a good role model for young people. I'd rather see them doing that than hanging around the park or the Off Licence, causing trouble.

Skateboarding was a sport that began on the street and is now a multi million pound industry. DH is friends with a guy who's brother works with Geoff Rowley and he hangs around with the likes of Johnny Rotten! :D

....

I have no time for thoughtless cyclists who plough through pedestrianised areas doing stunts.

Save it for purpose built cycle areas instead of risking the lives of pedestrians.

I didn't watch the clip right to the end but the bits I saw he wasn't near any people.

The problem with purpose built cycle areas is, there aren't that many of them.

Geoff Rowley, who I mentioned previously, is now a millionaire and he's working with L'pool city council to remedy the lack of facilities in the area and open a purpose built skate park.

I appreciate you may be talking about other stunt cyclists who are maybe not as thoughtful, but I just watched the whole clip again and there were only 2 occasions where someone was standing within a few feet of him and they obviously weren't in danger. It looks like it was filmed either very early morning, judging by the sun, or at night.
