Just thought it would be interesting to know exactly how small your garden can be to have chooks. Mines very small (I think) at 18ft x 14ft and I have three girls.

Just been out to measure mine (out of interest!). You beat me . I thought mine was small but it's 27ft x 27ft. Postively Hampton Court sized .

My garden is approx. 20 foot square with two little bits down the sides of the conservatory.

18 feet is 5.5 metres and 14 feet is 4.3 metres.

 

I definitely can't beat that!!

The back garden where they free range is about 70 x 40 ft, but there is a brick shed and a trampoline stuck in the middle of it - the trampoline doesn't get in their way - they are often found on it

Heres my garden, looks bigger on the photograph. I'm a secretary for an Estage Agent this was the photo they took when I was thinking of selling (good lens)

 

The eglu and run has been moved this weeked between the palms. (thats why I thought of this thread cos of the trouble we had fitting it in) the palm nearest to us had to be moved as eglu and run wouldn't fit in and is now at the front of the photo on the left hand side. I will take a photo tomorrow with eglu in new place.

ha! There is usually a larger than life stuffed dalmation, but that actually looks like a person!!!! (will dash upstairs with my torch and check it out!)

 

You are right JennyHenny is a lovely Hosta, I have many, but as you guessed the girls dont come out until the end of summer, hence the new bigger WIR!

I don't know what mine measures off the top of my head.

 

A good way to measure without having to measure (if that makes sense!) is to count your fence panels - usually 6ft wide each.

Ours is smallish - 7 fence panels by 4, so about 42x28 foot, but it has two patios and two brick built sheds in it! This is it this morning (paddling pool left out to dry from yesterday, and note the peas up on the table, almost as if they needed moving out of someone's way )!! We didn't have a garden in our last house and haven't bought a lawnmower yet, but we did pull out all the last owners attractive flowers and replace them with fruit trees and radishes

Its impossible to measure mine, as its on different levels, the back of the house isn't flat and the garden isn't square but it is roughly 6 fence panels by 8 panels!

 

and its not very easy to take pics of either!

 

edited: my fence panels are small ones though so its not as big as it sounds!!!!

Used to be longer but husband had a conservatory built before we met so took up a lot of room.

Lovely ANH, I notice the netting is that so they can't get onto the grass or keep them off the borders

They're not getting on my new grass, oh no . I've had to put the netting quite a few inches away from the lawn but still they manage to do a bit of edging for me ..... (sorry if you've seen this before )
