puddleduck
I am fairly sure there is nothing to worry about but my chickens are still showing no signs of laying! 2 are coming up to 24 weeks and one roughly 25/26 weeks. They don't seem to be developing very fast they don't understand the meaning of crouching... and they think life is all about eating, free ranging and getting a regular supply of fresh green veg delivered to there door (eglu ) oh and nest boxes are just luxurious place to sleep & poo at night! sorry I know I am just impatient, but I can't help but worry a little that something isn't quite right! Egluntyne
They are still very young. Don't panic! The development and reddening of the comb and wattles, combined with crouching and an increase in appetite are all signs that eggs are imminent. katieadams
I've had nothing more since that one softie 2 days ago, so I think the race is still on between us Puddleduck! I keep in mind that the chance of having 3 'duffers' is pretty slim!
puddleduck
I can't help but be a little when everyone elses girls are laying and they always seem to be younger than mine

ruth1
Don't worry it'll happen, I was the same last year, they took forever to get going and it's hard to be patient, you'll soon be overloaded with eggs
Patricia W
It'll happen - and, the date you found your first egg will be etched in your memory for ever !!
Budgies
I know it probably doesn't feel like it to you, but it's a good sign that they're taking their time! Young girls that come into lay too soon (spurred on by the food they're given etc) often experience problems because their egg laying equipment isn't properly mature enough to produce eggs. So enjoy your little ladies, don't panic and soon you'll be enjoying some lovely eggs!!
puddleduck
The development and reddening of the comb and wattles, combined with crouching and an increase in appetite are all signs that eggs are imminent. but thats my point.... their just not developing! ok so there faces are red but the combs are still small, they don't crouch and they don't eat a massive amount! Budgies
My first hybrid to lay was 25 weeks old, so you've still got a way to go. The emerging comb, wattles etc all happens fairly swiftly once it starts - you're still in the "normal" range!!!
puddleduck
2 came from a very popular breeder on here and 1 from a garden centre that again I have only heard good things about (although they were a little vague about the age)
Budgies
Sorry puddleduck, I edited my post because I suddenly realised that they are still very young to be laying, even if their ages are bang on! Just to add to the confusion!
puddleduck
Am I going mad now... I am sure I saw a post questioning where they came from and perhaps they weren't as old as I thought... so I responded and now I can't see it!!! I promise I haven't been drinking this early
